Sometimes its no so easy to find a new job - I looked for a year until I found the job I have now. I make like 19k a year where I used to make 80k:/.
That insecurity is rather frightening - when I lost the lease on my house if I didn't have a safety net (living with friends) I would have been able to live off savings/unemployment insurance, but after that I'd have to live out of my car.
I've found btw - that the drier your hands are - the less they leave a smudge on the screen (thats my experience with the Droid-X) - immediately after washing your hands you're probably more likely to smudge the screen.
The good news is the smudges wipe clean with a shirt tale or similar cloth.
No trojan would spread all that rapidly unless it was spread via the marketplace, and anyone submitting anything to the marketplace (even free stuff) has to go through a credit background check. Not to mention Google has the ability (and has used it) to remotely wipe programs installed from the marketplace.
My father used to work on these (and others much like it) when he was in the RCAF - they are famous for being flown around the nwt and by bush pilots in general.
I've tested it on a bunch of different sites though - Youtube, Vimeo etc - none seem to go above 20%. I'm using a no frills (came with the machine) Raedon X1550 video card - maybe that has something to do with it.
You have a seriously messed up computer. I'm on my work machine (2 gigs of ram, Windows 7 Flash 10.1 - and its an Dell Optiplex 745 with a 2 core Core 2 duo running at 2.4 GHz) and hulu in hd mode uses 15% of the cpu. My machine is nothing to brag about either.
A lot of this is quality assurance - it takes a lot of time to test and integrate all the device drivers in Android so that they work near perfect as possible. Its not like slapping a linux distro onto a white box and calling it a day;).
I had to switch from a Nexus One (Froyo 2.2) to a Motorola Droid-X (Eclair 2.1) because AT&T blows chunks (despite their coverage map showing full 3g coverage) where I live and I have to say - I do miss Flash, and I catch myself visiting a website that has embedded Flash objects I like to play around with all the time and just staring at that "missing plugin" icon is still a bit of a shock (only had the new phone 3-4 days). Adobe Flash only works on Froyo 2.2.
A lot of websites and blogs embed flash videos in them, and if they aren't Youtube - you cannot view them.
I do like the Droid-X more than the Nexus One (its touch display is far less buggy) and I can't wait for the next big update:).
Oh and Flash on my Nexus caused no noticeable battery drain than normal - in fact after Froyo was installed the battery life went *up* not down.
Except for the faked videos of 3rd party phones completely losing their signal by simply shifting the hand slightly.
I antenas droidx it has two cell antenas- apple claimed it only had one. The only way I can get it to drop signal ever so slightly is to grip both the top and bottom. Apple knocked the signal completely out by a simple shift of the hand.
Note to that I wasn't able to reproduce the issue on a display model of the iphone 4 either- so yeah it really was blown out of proportion. But it was a mark of insanity to go after other manufacturers the way they did.
Whats funny is I saw a local tv ad that was shot in SD - and I recognized a toaster transition (odd thing having worked with a lot of video hardware - often you can tell what the ad was edited in based on the effects alone). There are people that still use the stuff;).
Nokia's marketshare globally is flat, and in the US has been declining for a while. The situation is so bad they are looking for a new CEO.
While it is still number 1 - its a very precarious situation as they still haven't launched the N8 - a phone arguably that should have come out 2-3 years ago.
They also lost a lot of customers (like me - and Symbian Guru blogger) over the N97.
Lots of ways - many of the cases I've read about the device/software behaved in a way unique to their product - usually an exhibited bug in an early version or something.
Once you know you can disassemble the device/software, dump the strings out of the firmware - stuff like that and gather evidence.
What is to stop a website from putting a pdf inline as to infect unknowing users?
The other big question - Safari runs at a permission level to allow one to remotely change operating system permissions? Its inherently insecure and is just waiting for a wave of exploits to come down the pipeline (or black hats have already exploited it and we just don't know it yet) from some other bug not related to PDF.
I apologize for not being civil (and I honestly wasn't intentionally trolling), but seriously - the amount of lobbyist in state and federal government are corrupting the process.
Best example of this recently is the disclose act - with its exemptions to at least 3 special interests (NRA, AARP and the Humane Society) and the only reason why is because of successful lobbying. We can't have simplified taxes in this country because its a conflict of interest (according to intuit - who also lobby's our federal government). Many other industrialized countries have streamlined taxes and easy to use forms, but we can't for some reason.
There are tons of examples of politicians being for or opposed to legislation simply because they were lobbied/financed by a particular group (corps/special interests/pac's) that is generally for or opposed to said legislation. Health care is a good example of this - we spent twice as much as any other developed nation and get worse results. The evidence is all around us that its broken, but apparently we have the best system in the world and nothing serious needs to be done about it. Look up how much insurance companies spend on congress:(.
There may not be any government waste, or corrupt judges involved - but the process is off the rails thanks to lobbyists and the politicians who listen to them.
+Insightful? Seriously? Look up the word on dictionary.com:
–noun 1. deliberately mischievous or malicious destruction or damage of property: vandalism of public buildings. 2. the conduct or spirit characteristic of the Vandals. 3. willful or ignorant destruction of artistic or literary treasures. 4. a vandalic act.
Webster:
Function: noun Date: 1798
: willful or malicious destruction or defacement of public or private property
One case where Wikipedia isn't the authority on what a word means. Oh wait - Wikipedia says this:
"Vandalism is the behaviour attributed originally to the Vandals, by the Romans, in respect of culture: ruthless destruction or spoiling of anything beautiful or venerable. Such action includes defacement, graffiti and criminal damage."
and this:
"Private citizens commit vandalism when they willfully damage or deface the property of others or the commons."
I have 200 or so lab machines used by community college students (read - only slightly more mature than high school students) - Faronics Deep Freeze is your friend. That 20 minute wipe you could reduce down to a single reboot.
Oh an deepfreeze runs on the Mac too;).
I let people do whatever the hell they want with these machines (within reason - they aren't allowed to move/open/abuse etc). People install software, change the backgrounds, delete/modify files thinking they are screwing me over (I heard one student walk out of a classroom boasting to his friend that he'd like to see IT fix that mess) - so far I've never had a single machine compromised in any way that couldn't be fixed with a single reboot.
fans audibly speed up, but it hasn't caused any problems. I'm using 2x GTX 280's. These devices are intended to run at full speed at a 100% capacity though.
Also - try turning V-Sync on (by default its off) that will cap the framerate;).
There probably isn't a fix - as this is a kernel module it would be tricky at best to install from a regular app (from inside the vm). This would mostly affect phones that have easily customizable roms.
Checking to see if the kernel is tainted is tricky because once the kernel is patched by malicious code its pretty much game over from that point on as the rootkit is going to cloak itself from anything that could check.
Apple would have the same problem - with little recourse, but then they don't really care about customized iPhones.

Mark of a good virus is its ability to spread ;).

Watergate-gate?
There are republicans who support gun control too - look up James Brady.

Whoops - wrong part of the thread.

I can walk into any Apple store today and easily find an employee that will tell me Apple computers don't get viruses or malware.
Sadly this is the cause for many of the gimped and crappy government we've had at every level in this country.
Its just as corrupt as many of these 3rd world dictatorships we read about.
I think its wonderful how you can visit a website to fix a local filesystem permission issue ;).
