Gee, wasn't it not long ago that a talking puppet from M$ just said they "give the customers what they want" or something to that effect? Your post points out why that guy was full of sczhitnik. M$ lies so much, they could be THE 3rd political party in the US.

About this: This is not a conspiracy to sabotage the OS into refusing to play mp3... or refusing to record it.

For now, you're right. But with M$'s history of "integration", how long will it be until the OS actually looks for this and gives users the big FU?

It's all about idiots. If people weren't such dolts, they'd realize they could actually download better apps/utils/etc. ::sigh::

Has there been another posting of this a while ago? I've known about this for about two or three years now, and have seen examples of it. It's really kinda neat, actually. You can have a shaded graphic at the top of a page that contains the data needed to convert the rest of the page into HTML when scanned in. Obviously, other implications of this will arise, and we may not like it so much. Use your imagination.

Hmm... I just thought of an interesting idea... You encode a MIDI file, or an MP3 on a piece of paper and it plays back when scanned in. Heh. What a way to distribute music, with a photocopier! Oh man, what will I think of next?

But, as a traditional PR mouthpiece, he does dodge some of the questions. The question about the Unique Key for the hardware configuration was answered with the "need to make money" rhetoric.

It would be nice to hear straight answers, but that's not going to EVER happen from anyone behind the M$ doors.

The only thing I'm worried about is that they mentioned the newsgroups. For the most part, they've been "underground" since the web took over. And that's a good thing. Keeps them out of the spotlight, and away from prying hollywood-types' eyes. Napster was great for keeping those who couldn't configure a newsreader from being popular.

Ah! I just replied to another guys' post... heh... I feel the same way you do. I add parts to my truck to increase the performance, same way I add parts (well, just heatsink and fans) to my CPU to increase its performance. I tend to try to be a semi-expert in several fields... Computers, CB Radio, Trucks/Automotive. Like a Dopple-of-all-Trades.

But, it's MY hardware. And if I oc it, and it fries, they're gonna get more of my money anyway. If not, then I won the gamble. I'm not stealing anything. It's the same thing as buying a truck with a 4.6L engine, and adding aftermarket performance parts to it, to boost the horsepower to that of the 5.4L engine. You're not stealing anything, just getting more out of what you purchased.

Yep. I think my first long-term (more than a few months of actually owning the hardware) one was with those AMD 5x86-133's. Had the sucker running at 160, stable. It was nice, a little 486 on steroids that was about as fast as a P90. Nice at the time. I have three AMD's all oc'ed. Air cooled. K6-2 (450 to 500) K6-3 (450 to 500) and my new Tbird (1000 to 1200). I put a 1.2ghz rated heatsink/fan on my k6-3, keeps it nice 'n comfy.

This shows exactly why I don't feel bad about large companies having their software pirated. They get to screw everyone on rebates, so, in turn, they should receive a screwing.

Ah, I remember them days... I used to be the hardware director for CEBUG (Commodore East Brunswick User's Group) in New Jersey. I was known for cleaning keyboards, adding reset buttons, device number switches, and installing JiffyDOS. I kept it to the simple stuff at the meetings. Once I had to repair a 1571 (that was given to me)... someone ripped out the CIA chip and with it, a bunch of the traces on the board. So, after a couple of hours I got all the lines connected again with thin wire, and the drive is still working today. (I did that repair about 10 years ago.) I've added a second SID chip to my 64c and 128 (internal, none of that lazy plug-in crap!). I still have my c128 setup and working... anyone else out there have a C= system still runnin? Here's mine: C128 (flat) with new ROMS, JiffyDOS, Dual SID chips, and 64K VDC RAM, (2) 1571's, (2) 1581's, 100MB CMD HD, 1902A monitor, Xetec Supergraphix Gold printer interface, STar NX1000 printer, 1MB Commodore REU (added 512K RAM), Swiftlink-232, 64K Quick Brown Box (Works great with The Servant ROM installed in the 128!). -Jay (PS - I still have a couple Vic-20's, Plus/4's, and 64's piled away, as well as a stack of '41's)
