Basically it works on a whitelist, you can automatically add people to this whitelist and they are free to send you email anytime. For people not already on your whitelist, when you send that user a message, it will pop back a email with instructions on how to confirm your message, once you do that (usually simply by replying to the message), your on the whitelist.
It works with qmail, Sendmail, Exim and other popular mailers.
I still remember my first kernel compile, it was way back in the early ninties, don't exactly remember the year. I had installed linux on my pride and joy 486slc/40 with 4 megabytes of ram. After reading how to do it I started at around 6pm, around 3am I grew bored at staring at the console and went to sleep.
When I awoke, it was finally done but I wasn't aware of how lilo worked at the time, so I just erased the old kernel and copied the new one into my / directory and rebooted. But the system never came back up. Frustrated I installed DOS back onto the system.
Perhaps he meant this scam to generate more money than a quarter million? Maybe he was scared away by something and decided to cut his scheme short. Either way, once you commit the crime, even if you only make $1.00 or $1,000,000.00 you better start heading towards the airport.

"And Microsoft? Well, they still have to win over the Japanese market, which will be about as touch as trying to win back the people pissed off about their "conceptual artwork" (read: photoshopped screenshots)"
Oh yeah that's real tough. All of those millions upon millions of consumers that read Slashdot and other game sites that are pissed about air brushed photos. Seriously, The target audience for these platforms don't have the slighest clue about that situation.
We're about to install a service that will do just that.
It's called Tagged Message Delivery Agent, or TDMA. You can find more information on it at http://software.libertine.org/tmda/.

Not as many as you might think. They'll be closet X-Box freaks, playing it alone, in the dark.
