    Found via http://isc.incidents.org/diary.html?date=2004-03-2 0.

    After running it for about 10 minutes and seeing 1,000's of matches, I decided it was better to delete the rule since it was logging to a MySQL database for fear of overloading the disk, and go back to bed.

    Our virus filtering usually quarantines around 40 messages per hour. Right now we're seeing over 1600 per hour.

    What about root kits? I would consider that a virus, not technically speaking, but it's still along the same lines.

    Jon Lewis setup a nice utility to test if your network is affected by outdated filters.

    It includes a nifty traceroute utility that you can use to test with.

    As a holder of space in the 69/8 range, I'll admit the problem is annoying, but thanks to people like Jon, and this posting on Slashdot, hopefully it will go away.

    You can share files via FTP or HTTP without running a FTP server or a HTTP server.

    No security holes to worry about either.

    Has the same exact issue. All of the Caymen & Efficient routers are usually setup with the default password. Which by a quick google search, is easily obtainable.

    This only applies to business customers who ordered the router option instead of a bridge.

    Yeah, there's your problem. Your assuming that the person you are talking to has a clue what you are talking about. On top of that, nothing irritates me more than when a call get's escalated to me and it's some guy who *thinks* he knows what the problem is.

    For good service, please play dumb and keep from making your own observations, no matter if you are right or wrong.

    He was SELLING pirated video games on top of the mod chips and he thought there was nothing wrong with it? And on top of that, he was advertising this in the local paper? This guy has some serious balls. Honestly, he deserves the punishment.

    Not exactly a "developer" site but I use http://www.hotscripts.com all of the time.

    Take a look at someones else's code relating to what you are working on, improve it, change it, fiddle with it, you'll end up learning faster (at least I did) by looking at someones elses code to get ideas.

    Uhm yeah. Time to move on from printed books. Yup. Considering 99.9999% of the earths population doesn't have access to a ebook reader that makes a bunch of sense. Yup.

    I really can't think of a good technical reason that I need to see the expiration date and other information off of the whois servers. Only information I really care about is the DNS servers and the admin/technical contact.

    They should make the whois servers not give this information so other companies can use it as their own personal sales list.

    I'm pretty sure I didn't read anything in the article about Microsoft actually enforcing this.

    I'm pretty sure it's just one of those things that happens when you have 20 bazillion lawyers all gathered around writting a license agreement.

    It's a lot similar to a California law of Animals are banned from mating publicly within 1,500 feet of a tavern, school, or place of worship. Whacky law link.

    Why is it similar? Because it's just a stupid thing that a bunch of lawyers or whatever had written up without really thinking about it.

    I expect that by the time you see Microsoft actually enforcing this, you'll most likely see two rabbits being hauled off by the LAPD for getting jiggy with it near church.
