    You might, soon.

I heard that CmdrTaco has a deal with the Cartoon Network. He promotes their big push into Anime and they develop a coming of age anime-style cartoon about his pre-Slashdot years. I'm sure struggling with sexuality will be a large part of that show.

    Yes.

VideoCD isn't just for pirates..Especially outside of the USA (and particularly in Asia). You can buy original VCDs, that are full licensed by the movie companies and everything.

Also, even when you buy pirate VideoCDs in such places as China, they are almost always on 'real' CD media, as it is much cheaper to mass produce that way.

This isn't seeing a black hole, it's seeing certain phenomena that might indicate the presence of a black hole. Until somebody actually sees one of these things, they're still purely speculation, and a somewhat dubious one at that, despite the amount of public attention they have managed to capture.

There's a ton of stuff that we can't see that we accept due to available evidence. Example: Gravity. Why do you need to "see" the black hole to know it exists?

A lot of the power problems in California can be directly traced back to the Java programming language.

Consider this: Java is such a slow, bloated virtual machine enviornment that it requires at least twice the CPU horsepower and memory to run the same applications written in a language such as C++.

Unfortunately many companys bought into Sun's lies about Java and implemented Java based systems, particularly on the server side. The result? Far too many servers eating up way more energy than they need.

DON'T USE JAVA!!!! People who use Java are contributing to the downfall of the California economy.

Pinball is not very fun. Even the 'expert' pinball machines are just way too easy. I can play them for hours on a single quarter.

Some pinball makers had the right idea by adding lots of lights and pseudo-video-game displays to the machines, but they never took it far enough, and the same boring slap-the-ball gameplay was the core of the game. Sorry, but I'm not a retard. I need something a bit more challenging than hitting a ball with some flippers. Even Whack-a-mole is more exciting.

If you want some real fun, try some original video games, like Sega's excellent Final Fantasy games for the NeoGeo.

That's a silly question to ask on Slashdot.

Most of the people on this site wave the banner of Freedom and Openness when in reality all they want is a free lunch. In my experience, the same people who support open source software are the ones who support the whole pirate warez scene. They dont want more freedom, they just want more things for free. That's why any sane person can see that there is a huge degree of communist idealism in the open source movement. Don't kid yourself, Richard Stallman is redder than Stalin!!!

But have you heard the quality of Windows Media Format Audio version 8? Or seen the video of its video-counterpart? It blows away anything else currently available.

If you haven't seen it, there's a demo/beta version available on Microsoft's site. The quality (for the amount of data used) is simply amazing.

I think that in general its because the patented, closed technology comes first. With all due respect to the people who create wonderful patent free & Open Source alternatives (png, ogg vorbis, etc) they are always in reaction to an existing technology brought forth by a company who could afford the R&D costs on something more original.

By the time the open source alternative is available for use by non-programmers it is generally too late...Even if the open source alternative has considerable benefits over the closed one (PNG compared to GIF for example) habits that have had time to form don't die easily, and the majority of people just stick with what they've already grown used to.
