I grew up in Des Moines. This school is considered a pathetic educational institution that is a haven for rejects. I suspect that this is just a gimmick to look hip. Technology, as great as it is, is no replacement for traditional education.
Have you ever heard of a person being impressed with a degree from U of Phoenix??
Sony just doesn't get it. There are plenty of ways to copy a CD (RCA output anybody?) It only takes one digital copy to work itself around a P2P network. Despite this 'protection', I was able to run a quick search on Kazaa that pulled up the entire album.... not that she is even worth my bandwidth
I agree that zonealarm is a great app for isolated misbehaving programs like mplayer (amongst many others). The problem is that MS is in a unique position to circumvent such safeguards. Since integration has been the bedrock of MS application developement for the last ten year, what prevents the log file from being used by an outside process such as IE and Generic Win32 Host Process which both already have rights
The purpose of copyrights is to allow the creator to prosper from his/her creative works. It is considered a bribe to be inventive. After which, the work is supposed to fall into the public sphere. The problem is that copyrights have now become a tool of the corporations, who have no incentive to ever be inventive, rather to use copyright to further milk the IP monopoly that copyright protects.
Professor Lessig often calls copyright extension in his texts the 'Mickey Mouse' law because Congress allows extends the copyright protection right before Mickey Mouse is supposed to fall into the public domain
They're charging $99 for this. How ridiculous. OEM versions of Genunie Windows cost about the same
Actually, standard XP licenses run $299. It is the constant upgrades (AKA M$ tax) the charge $99 a piece.
That being said, I still don't think this will work. Where is the market? Techies see no benefit in paying ANY money for a GUI. Joe Six-Pack doesn't care because he is already convinced Windows is free anyway just because it came already on his Dell box.
Tobacco companies are the only organizations that would invest 1 million dollars to cure cancer and then spend 14 million dollars in a PR campaign to tell the world about it
When I bought my new computer, I had
Windows, Internet Explorer, and Office pre-installed (for free) Don't be fooled that that was a free product. The OEM you bought it from undoubtedly paid M$ the licensing fee, and then passed it down to you in the form of a Bill G tax
I don't understand the reasons behind the company

The Win3.1 - Win9x based kernel had a BSOD. That issue was eliminate in Win2k/XP
Unless Microsoft has a business outlet in Iowa

FYI This is the supreme court which consists of only justices and NO jury
Just think of the incredible health benefits if you got one of these setups strapped to your abdominals. oh wait...
