  1. Tradewars. on Husband and Wife Computer Games? · · Score: 1

    Tradewars of course.

    Together a galactic force.

  2. No problems with DSL on Dial-Up As De Facto Standard · · Score: 1

It seems strange to me to see so many people saying they have problems getting high speed connections installed. I've had a cable modem at three diffrent locations, and when I moved some where they didn't have it, I just got DSL instead. All of this was with no problem. They all took about two weeks, basicly just schedueling time. On the last install it was right around christmas, just a week or so before, and I had no problem what so ever, they even wanted to come out earlier so they could take off the day before christmas. The service was with speakeasy and the carrier was covad. No one told me I would have to wait more than two weeks.

  3. Been close to there. on Sean In The Middle · · Score: 1

When I was in middel/high school I went through
the same thing as many people here probably did.
I was made fun of for "being nerd" and wearing
a trench coat, or having long hair.

I wore a trench coat most days of the year
althrough middel school. I'm sure if you tried
this now you would automatically be searched
    for weapons.

A few things happened. the daily insults and
jokes. I was victim to a few run-by head punches.
Tripped and pushed around in the hall ways.
Someone even poured lotion in my hair while
I was bent down reaching in my locker. One
friend of mine (probably the only one there)
was beaten up so badly that he never came back.

All of these things happened, but did we shoot
anyone? No. The "redneck" kid who teased everyone,
he was the one who was found with a gun one day.
Apparently just showing off... But I don't think
nerds are the ones they should be looking at, not
that they should be looking at anyone.

They shouldn't deal with the kids who
"look suspicious" or "are a little strange". They
should teach the kids that tease the strange ones
that it isn't write to do so.

Still today, outside of school, at work. Just a
few days ago, I dyed my hair Saftey Paint Orange
and still there is no getting away from it.

YOU CANNOT BE DIFFRENT WITHOUT PEOPLE HATING YOU.

  4. Cellphones Suck. on Is the Payphone Dead? · · Score: 1

A destruction of payphones would be ridiculus.

Not everyone has or wants a cellphone. Personally I don't want a digital chain. I don't want everyone to be able to get ahold of me 24 hours a day no matter where I am. Jobs, annoying people, bill collectors... I don't need these people calling while I'm trying to enjoy a walk down the street. If you turn it off too long everyone will start to think you're dead or something.

I also don't want to pay 20+ bucks a month for the
5 calls a year I might make while outside.
I've lived my entire life without cell phones
and will continue to do so, I haven't had any
problems without one yet. The benifits aren't
worth the downsides. Everyone must consider the
    benifits to drawbacks of technology.

  5. This will never end. on MPAA Goes After Gnutella · · Score: 1

Even though it may be ethically wrong to trade these movies and the like, its a horrible standard we're allowing to be set. Everytime a new technology that could possible benifit people comes out it is quickly grabbed up and controled or destroyed and illegalized. How long until distributed file systems are illegal all together (or highly regulated)? More of this will happen, everytime a peice of technology comes out that doesn't fit into CORP X's bussiness plan they'll destroy it. One day, someone might figure out how to build things like transporters and replicators and we won't be allowed to use them because it would be an intrusion on GAS COMPANY X's market or it'll be said that replicators will demotivate innovation and they should only be used to corporations. It's competition, if the majority of people want to trade music online, then it is their duty as a bussiness entity to ensure their profits. Create a better product or find profit elsewhere. "AH! They're doing something we can't control, kill them!" If were going to keep doing this we might as well just write the bussinesses permanent existance into law. Section II (a) CORP X will exist under this goverment forever. (b) CORP X will not have and challengers to their market and profits. (c) CORP X will provide all legislators with %0.03 of their annual profits. (d) Not taxes will be paid by CORP X.
