  1. What a cop out... on Tucows BSD Section Goes Down in Flames · · Score: 2

They should of just taken the site down quietly. I built the site for them when I was the Tucows Linux Manager, and knew quite a bit about BSD then. I actually teach a BSD administration course now. I told them they need to find some BSD workers, but they didn't listen to me. I told them they need to support the ports collection, but they didn't listen. I told them that BSD was not better or worse than Linux, just different and they need to take time to learn it. But they didn't. All they did was install BSD and couldn't get it to run. Then they turn around and claim it sucks because it isn't as brainless to install as Linux. BSD runs fine, and they could have seen the benefits if they took the time to learn it. Instead they decided to slam an OS they know nothing about. Dumb.

  2. Find a consulting firm on Is There Still A Contract Market For Programmers? · · Score: 1

I work for a consulting firm in Ann Arbor Michigan. We officially do all things linux including service, support, and custom solutions but we also do some coding. Call around to the various consulting companies and inquire about what you are looking for. The smaller shops will probably surprise ya.

  3. Are there dependencies yet? on Slackware 7.2 [Not] Released · · Score: 1

Does Slackware have dependencies yet? I know they have somewhat of a package system, but if they don't have dependencies the packaging system is kinda worthless. That's the main reason I use Debian over Slackware.

  4. Re:Bye-bye free Linux on TurboLinux/LinuxCare Confirmed · · Score: 1

Not really. I actually downloaded it two ways: ISO image (you only need the first one) and downloading from ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/potato/main/disk s-i386/current/: base2_2.tgz, modules.tgz, boot.bin and root.bin (boot and root from images-1.44 dir under the disks-i386 dir). After it rebooted in a relativily easy setup (text based, but still easy) I selected the Debian FTP site for the sources list. All in all it was very easy.
