Thats absolutely correct. He may be a brilliant computer programer but he should not try to be his own physician. By his own admission he has already significantly delayed his care trying to treat himself.
The signs and symptoms he describes are consistant with pulmonary actinomycosis but there are also a number of other infections and other conditions that could cause this.
While his own description of 'yellow nodules' is interesting and possibly significant no one has examined any of these nodules and no one has definitively diagnosed him yet.
There is a good reason his doctor is required to consult an ID specialist before hospitalizing him.
He should follow this advice, contact the best physicians he knows, and let them decide what he has and how it should be treated.
If he does turn out to have actinomycosis his prognosis is very good for a complete cure and good recovery. I wish him the best.

Let's see - either I use some complicated micropayment thing that means I have to give my creit card number to someone and ends up costing me $0.50 per song or...
I get it for free with no hassel for Kaazaa or sumthing. Sounds like a no brainer to me.
Might work for some other stuff but I wouldn't try selling mp3's like that.
When you get to the bottom of all the media hype and bullshit you find one pathetic screwed up 14 year old kid. What a waste of time and man power. Rather than all the effort to 'get' this kid wouldn't it have been better to invest it in improving the basic infra structure of the internet so that simplistic DDOS attacks like this were simply no longer possible.
Sure they are coping with an unimaginable tragedy now but in hind-site maybe if Dad hadn't 'gone back to work' his over achieving, demanding workplace and instead took the afternoon off to talk with his son about an emotionally wrenching experience this might have been avoided.
What I see is a very scared lonely kid who had no one to talk to to try to put this whole thing - fair or unfair - in perspective.

After reading the last two posts I think slashdot is being colonized by Crunchy Cons.

Great for troubleshooting - as soon as you fix the broken connection the stream comes back up.
