    Forget about consumers though...

It's good for local businesses... The more people that are out using their wireless-enabled devices, the more potential revenue is being generated by store fronts. It will get more people outside and more outside means more people ending up buying goods and services and that leads more tax revenue for the government.

It won't be aluminum because aluminum is used for professional-class products. White is used for consumer-class products (i.e. airport items and ipods).

A fair comparison would be of a gigabit hub and a firewire hub (even though the price is still probably ridiculously high for a gigabit hub comparatively speaking). There is no packet forwarding or intelligent behavior in a firewire hub as there is in a gigabit switch.

Are we really worried what AMD has to offer in comparison to Intel? AMD seems to have FSB issues (not greater than 400MHz). It appears thta when the PPC 970 debuts it will fall in between the best AMD effort and the best Intel effort (in single processor mode).

I'm in the process of replacing, through peer to peer downloads, all of the music I listed to in high school. It was all on cassette tape. They're all long gone now, all destroyed or lost one way or another. I also lost a significant number of CDs in a move. If I replace all of them with peer to peer, is that theft? I paid for them all. How many times do I have to pay before it's not theft anymore?

I'd have to say that it may not be theft if you are looking to replace your lost CDs with peer-to-peer obtained MP3s. But your tapes weren't very high quality to begin with. However, it's not like your CDs or tapes were insured. There is no provision in the fair use agreement that if you lose your possessions that you are entitled to free copies in the future.

If you purchased a low quality pair of jeans (a pair that wore out from constant use in less than a year), that doesn't entitle you to steal better quality jeans (because your old jeans wore out).

    Or something like that...

USB has Intel going for it. 1394 has technical excellence going for it.

This means that USB will win and 1394, because we all know that the more technically proficient technology always loses ala IDE vs. SCSI.

  9. Re:A waste of time. Probably OEMed by someone else on Apple releases iPod · · Score: 1

Unfortunately, Apple's ultimate goal is to get people to buy more Apple hardware. So it's not likely that Apple will be developing a PC version of iTunes. They want to keep their so-called advantages to Mac-only. Maybe, in the future, they will get one program on Windows to definitely support the iPod and release an SDK for other Mac and Windows apps to optionally support it.

Remember, Apple makes more money on hardware sales, than on FireWire licenses.

Yes.. No OggVorbis support, but it is firmware upgradeable for "future audio formats" as stated in the tech specs. I'm pretty certain that when there is a 1.0 final coder/decoder for the Ogg Vorbis format, then you will see more support in more digital audio products. And it does double as a firewire hard drive...
