"Yet more legal recourse to screwing the little guy. Well done, anti-Microsoft dickheads."
You freaking moron, youre missing the point entirely. Liability regulation protects the little guy by protecting his credit card number and the access to his machine. Why are tiremakers (Firestone) legally liable to produce a safe product? Because cutting corners has the potential to injure the "little" guy you presume to defend.
Why would anyone want to support a company that uses a flawed business model of "selling" free software and for some reason expects to turn a profit? I don't care what your opinion is on the matter, the whole free-licensing scheme is flawed and any idiot can see that.
Welcome to Nirvana Mr. yobbo, here you will see that you are surrounded by the enlightened capitalists of society who rightfully believe that free-licensing is for unemployed-socialist-retrohippy-idealist-schmucks who will be stuck on unemployment and foodstamps for the rest of their lives continually pumping out free code.
Ya know, if you just give a product away for free, I hear that you might not be able to generate much in the way of revenues.... I mean what kind of friggin business model are you people perpetuating here anyways? Start charging licensing fee's and you might be able to get off unemployment.
Right, so what I've been implying this entire time is that only an idiot would give away something for free in a capitalist society when he could instead make a living off of it. Beginning to see my original point yet?
You should seriously think about what you've just said. On a small scale, yeah I guess it makes since. But when entire OS's, productivity suites, and the like are given away for free, you're restricting the need for development by a company when they can just hack the alternative a lil bit for free.
Anyone advocating that Walkmart should switch to open source shouldn't come back here next week complaining about the bad job market for programmers. If you've got a skill, don't just give it away for free, demand a paycheck.
I imagine that when they go into the real world and actually get PAID for what they write, they will be less apt to just give it away instead. But hey!
I swear, why don't you guys just petition your congressional representative to raze the patent offices. You people wont be happy until oyu've open sourced everything and sacekd capitalism. Am I correct in suspecting that most of oyu are independantly wealthy and never hope to earn a buck on anything that you develope be it code, reference materials, your professional serveices, etc...
Ok, I'm the roomate as mentioned by this post and I currently work for UPS. I've worked there for 2 and a half years and I see stuff like this guys computer on a daily basis.
The biggest impression that I have from my work experience is how stupid people, like this guy, really are. I took one look at the box in your posted pictures and I immediately knew that you did not package the stuff right. You've got plenty of pictures of the box but where are the pictures of the packaging materials that you used to stabilize the contents and protect them from blunt force? The box itself is a testament to the fact that there was a whole lot of empty space inside of it that should have been filled with styrofoam.
1. Look at the box. That is not the first time that box has been through UPS. (probably not the second time either, we all know how them tree huggin mac-addicts love to recycle)
2. Monitor and Computer in same package? Do you realize how the large glass plate in a monitor can offset the weight of a box? If it is set down with any force, it will tip and likely cause internal damage. Use seperate boxes for different items; don't try to save a buck if you value your components.
3. How do you think UPS operates internally? Are we a bunch of overpaid company-men who treat every package like it was our own? Nope, just a bunch of 18-25 yr olds barely making above minimum wage. Personaly, I handle 7-10 thousand packages in a 5 hr. shift and I don't care about any single package any more than the next. If you're not going to take the time to package your stuff right then you obviously don't care that much about it.
4. Fragile? C'mon guy, of the afore mentioned 7-10k packages I handle do I care if any individiual package is marked fragile? That has got to be the longest running joke in the company:) "Hey guys! Careful, this one's fragile!"
I could go on about some of the stuff that I see getting sent through the system (ie., live alligators, no joke) but all I can say is that people who package their own shipments need to kick the box from every angle and drop it from a height of 3.5 ft. to be sure that it wont get damaged.
"...but keep their changes as their own"
and
"If I were to give back to to the comunity it would be for selfish reasons; mainly bacause I want to increase the functionality of the tools I use."

I can just see ID software jumping all over the parents of the Columbine-Killers to advertise for fps's
