In other news... For those of you wanting to use KDE 4.0, Fedora 9 will be supporting it. It is currently in the rawhide build and can be installed on Fedora 8 by using the development repo.
We use drag and drop all over the place in the web app I work on at work. With btw, has nothing whatsoever to do with AJAX and baffles me that they post claims AJAX makes this possible.
SCO and Vista have a partnership to sell templated websites called SCO biz. At one point SCO was/is? heavily invested in Vista to the tune of 3+ million dollars.
I know some (read most) people will think I am crazy but I recently purchased the DirecTV HD Tivo. I have had the unit for just over a week now and absolutely love it.
The price: 999.00 (ouch, don't tell my wife)
I have had DirecTV HDTV for about 6 months and really hated not being able to record the shows I like to watch. I found myself using my hacked/upgraded tivo (series 1 non-hd) to watch shows that also are aired in HD simply because I like skipping commercials.
The quality of recorded shows are simply amazing. Especially Disovery HD and movies on HBO-HD. Very nice sound as it keeps the DD 5.1 soundtrack.
Was it worth the 1000.00 I paid for it? Well, I priced out building a similar HTPC (Home theater PC) with 2 HD tuners and 2 OTA tuners and it was more expensive to roll my own. Also, mythTV does not worth well with direct (from what I have read). So I do believe it was worth the 1000.00 considering it does come with a 250gb hard drive (150.00).:) I know I know I know.. justify myself all the way to hell.
Who are you kidding? I was reading this and thought it sounded familiar... its because I POSTED THIS message a few months ago! Why copy my post word for word? Is it because it got rated a 5 then so you thought you would see if you could rack up some points?
The problem with movies is that they are not (someone correct me if I am wrong) originally recorded with HD cameras. Because of this, they are just upscaled to be in 720p or 1080i or whatever.
So, to answer your question, on my DTV HD movies are not that different. You can tell a difference, but not big enough to justify 10.95 a month. However, the HBO shows (original series) are great in HD.
Maybe to give a better example. Have you watched a DVD on a non-progressive scan compared to progressive scan? I can't tell the difference between the two. But I can tell a difference between HBO NON-HD and HBO-HD.

What exactly turns you people on about watching TV in higher resolution?
What exactly turn you on about running your computer resolution higher than 640x480? See how stupid your comment is now?
I signed up for DirectTV HDTV about two months ago. I was an existing directTV customer but I still talked them into selling me the equipment for 99.00 (normally 399.00). The equipment consists of a Samsung HD DTV receiver and a new dish to pick up the HD channels. (also picks up all the international channels DTV offers)
Channel Lineup: ESPN Discovery HD HDMovies (Movie channel showing various movies from classics to recent favorites) HDNet - pretty much a worthless channel showing repeats of recent Nascar Races, Horse, Races, and concerts. They also have some original series on it (I think).
CBSHD - I live in Utah and they allow me to pick up the CBS HD feed from LA. This is great because I can watch my shows an hour later in HD without needing the off air ant.
If you subcribe: HBOHD - The regular HBO in HD. SHOWTime HD - The regular showtime in HD.
Cost: Basis HD is 10.95 a month. HBO is 12.00 a month and Showtime is 10.00 a month.
Is it worth it?
Hmm.... I can tell you this. I am a big fan of Sopranos and Deadwood (HBO series) and love watching them in HD. I also enjoy watching Golf in High def on the weekends. You can tell a HUGE DIFFERENCE between the shows in HD and regular shows. People come over and just say WOW to the sporting events. Movies are not that much different.
So, its worth the money (10.95 a month) to me just to get golf in HD on CBS on the weekends. Basketball playoffs are also great. Its hard to watch golf/basketball in non-hd now.
Cons: No STINKING TIVO!!!!!! I can't wait for the HDTivo to be affordable.
>>The difference is that SCO's case is completely without merit, while the FSF's case here is completely watertight
How do you know the SCO lawsuit has no merit? Have you seen the unixware / openserver code and compared it line by line with linux code? I didn't think so.
>>(I'd recommend Eric Raymond's OSI position paper for a start).
I have read it and have to say there are numerous problems with the paper. Of course it is a work in progress and has gotten better with each revision but some mistakes still exists. Refer to the earlier story about the paper to view the mistakes I am talking about.
It amazes me that everyone is gung-ho about suing over violations of the GPL while people are willing to burn SCO at the cross for upholding their legal right when their license has been violated.
Seriously, what is the difference? FUD against linux you say? What about the FUD the open tv costomers / potential investors are hearing right now?
I fail to see the difference between the two stories. Both entities (SCO & FSF) are just trying to maintain the integrity of their licenses. We should start a petition / web site to ban the FSF just as the community has done to SCO.
