If you are a hacker, want power, or are smart, Apple makes mediocre products.
(What do I mean? The command line, emacs, etc.)
Exactly. If only someone could merge a *nix box (with niceties like the command line and emacs and such) with good hardware and a nice design aesthetic.
Sounds like (I didn't read TFM, natch) like Paul just went through the hell that is known as a Real Estate Transaction.
(having just suffered through a similar endeavor, in which 14 trees were felled and 33 tonerbeasts were slaughtered so that the real estate agents could continue to do things the way they've done them for 30 years...)
I think you may be mixing your calories there. Food calories are technically (and confusingly) 1000x their equivalent energy calorie. In fact, food calories are more precisely referred to as kilocalories, even though most in the US omit the kilo.
So while it may (or may not) take 10 energy calories to make 1 food calorie, that x1000 skews things quite a bit in the other direction.
I have been using computers since the 286 days and I have yet to get a virus of any kind on any of my personal machines. Why? Because I'm careful. Malware only exists because people aren't careful. No operating system can prevent people from doing something dumb, so stop ragging on Apple (or Microsoft, or IBM, or whoever else you want to crucify) -- this is a problem with people, not software. Always has been.
I've been using computers for a lot longer than that, and I can say with certainty that you're full of shit. An operating system should not be vulnerable to infection through simple everyday tasks like surfing the web. Period.
You foolishly assume that everywhere in the world is like the USA with stone age cellular networks.
Don't worry, it's a common mistake, but there are countries outside of the US with decent networks. Some of them you aren't even invading for petroleum distillate.
You foolishly assume that everyone in the US is a warmongering SUV-driving neanderthal who can't be bothered to know the finer points of world geography and culture.
Okay, well... you'd be mostly right. But there's a few of us out here who aren't gazing intently at our own navel.
I'm not defending this particular plugin (or even Drupal) as I know next to nothing about either. I do know something about moderating an online community, though. I've learned many things in the process, such as the ability to recognize someone who has never spent any serious amount of time dealing with problem users on a large scale.
I do think it's a great way to level the playing field between gas guzzlers (the ones that tear up the road the most)
Living near a major shipping port on the West Coast, I can tell you definitively that the vehicles that do the most damage to the roads are the semi trucks loaded with shipping containers. Or any fully-loaded semi, really. The difference between cars and SUVs is nearly immeasurable.
Clearly, by this logic we should ban all semi trucks.
Did you even read the National Geographic article you linked to? It makes a pretty strong case that (a) creationists aren't capable of basic scientific through process, and (b) the people who claimed to have found the ark are full of it.
Am I the only one who, upon reading the summary, immediately wished that we could apply that to other forums and comment areas as well? Think of how much better online interactions would be if trolling a forum had some actual consequences.
I run an online forum, and I've often wished I could deliver a large electric shock to asshats via their mouse.
And just think of how much better slashdot would be!
You should either go to law school or stop talking. One or the other. Because babbling on about legal concepts that you clearly don't understand just isn't working for you.
Google can deny it all they want. Everyone running a decent-sized forum with reCAPTCHA noticed spammers getting their bogus registrations through on January 4th. One day it was working great, the next day spam.
I'm a moron because I believe in the United States Constitution, which guarantees me rights that allow me to defend myself?
Which part of "well-regulated" is unclear to you? The fact that mentally unstable people have access to guns means the regulations aren't working, and therefore are failing the constitutional test. Gun nuts have consistently opposed ANY regulation on their freedom to buy guns, in complete ignorance of the first part of the second amendment.
I'm in favor of not letting mentally unstable people have guns. Clearly, the current controls aren't working, and yet people like you march on oblivious to the cost of easy access to guns.
Either prove that the legal controls can work (which you clearly cannot, since they aren't) or shut the fuck up. Callous use of clichés while people are dying will make more people turn against your "cause".
As cliche as it sounds: Guns don't kill people. People kill people, and sometimes they use guns to do it.
As cliche as it sounds (and at the risk of using up some of my karma) just Shut The Fuck Up already. Some lunatic manages to bypass all the completely worthless controls on who can get a gun and goes out and starts shooting people, and you resort to tired clichés about how it's really the fault of the people. And you know what? I agree with you already. Now lets make sure people can't get their hands on fucking guns anymore.
Criminy, there's a whole lot of stupid in this thread. Smart people playing dumb to make a stupid and controversial point is just pointless.

Exactly. If only someone could merge a *nix box (with niceties like the command line and emacs and such) with good hardware and a nice design aesthetic.
That would be awesome.
You think of a forum that exists for the express purpose of trolling and stupid humor? Why? Why do you not think of Slashdot instead?
Same thing, really.
Sounds like (I didn't read TFM, natch) like Paul just went through the hell that is known as a Real Estate Transaction.

Oh, you must be new here.
So would this make sendmail illegal?

I think it's intellectually dishonest to jump from A to C when there is a very clearly-related B in between.
To then accuse other people of being intellectually dishonest makes you either stupid or malicious. Take your pick.
Right on!
Wait, what?!?
This does not rule out supporters and random lunatics, though.
Same same.

In short: it's a stupid idea and a stupid plugin.
I'm not defending this particular plugin (or even Drupal) as I know next to nothing about either. I do know something about moderating an online community, though. Don't forget, if this comes, there will be no more fuel tax.
You must be living in a different country. Of course there will still be a fuel tax!

Way to support your position.
He said "tablet specific". It makes a really big difference. Using a tablet with a software interface designed for a phone is marginal at best.

Oh cry me a fucking river, you liberal pansy.
Sir, it is people like you that give Americans a bad name around the world.

Fucking wankers.
so long as the control laws we actually have are enforced and people are educated about gun safety.
Aye. There's the rub. And this has yet to be shown to be the case.
