Doing that would require near real time (i.e., within a week or two) updates of all financial transactions being sent to the IRS
AFAIK, the IRS only is informed about the tax amounts once per year. (Companies send the actual money more frequently, but this is just as a lump sum.) Depending on the state, they usually get informed quarterly. Still, this is still probably too infrequent for the grandparent post's poster.
Do you know if Avernum (newer version of Exile series, by same company) is the same way with monsters? I've beaten A1, am almost done A2, and will soon start A3. I didn't notice this, but maybe it was because by the time I was high enough to wander around doing random final quest thingies (outside), I was looking at the tiny automap instead of the big map. I have noticed a few times, though, when the monsters try to run away from me, and I have to chase them halfway across the "world", before I pulverize them. (For those who haven't played, in Avernum 1 and 2, your world is actually a system of caves.)
Sorry, I meant to down mod mnmlst's first post, #7142339 down (seemed a bit trollish) but this one (#7143568) up (you recanted). But I miscounted my mod points, and ended up only giving the bad mod the first posting, and not a better one to the second. (Hence this post, to cancel it all out for you.)
Opera 5.11 and 5.12 for Windows (and most likely some older versions and for other operating systems) have 2 interesting settings under "Privacy": Display warning for {illegal domains, paths}. I have them both enabled, and when I visit Hotmail, Opera pops up a dialog saying the site is trying to set cookies with invalid paths. I reject them (since Opera doesn't have a way to manually delete specific cookies), and use Netscape instead. If you accept them (or don't have those prefs enabled), Opera may get confused when you do those other things, once you're logged in.
And/Or, as someone else said, it could also be the JavaScript - Opera's implementation seems a little funky sometimes. (Of course, this is also Hotmail's fault - sites shouldn't rely on JS for navigation.)
I thought I saw this question answered on the SETI@home page a while ago, but I can't find it now...
The reason you gave, "I'm 3117", shouldn't be ruled out.
There may also be some people (yes, I doubt this is common) that don't want to make alien contact, no matter what, so they would send false negatives - they would always want to send a "no pattern" in, even if there is an interesting signal. Yes, lame reason, but it isn't lame to the people that believe that.
I know they don't know how to pronounce it...

Although there is a minor debate about how to say it, pronouncing each letter is better (IMHO). SEQUEL, which stood for Structured English Query Language, became SEQUEL/2, which was reduced to the SQL we use today. (most of the top Google hits say this) Therefore, saying "sequel" refers to the original language (SEQUEL), and "es-cue-el", SQL.
Hmmm... since Nate couldn't be there to plug Everything, I guess I will: SQL writeups. (Currently, there isn't anything about SEQUEL, though.)
Does it have to be PostScript first, or can you just print to the printer? If it doesn't have to be PostScript, Java 1.2 makes it pretty easy to print. Sun's tutorial diplays some graphics to the screen, then prints it.
Blizzard had 2 betas for Diablo 2. The first one was only for 1000 people in the USA, and they all were sent a CD. The second one was open to many more people (I think 100000), although everybody had to download about a 100 meg file. This second beta is still ongoing, although you need a key to play (1 per person, and don't ask for mine). This beta will end in about 4 days, since the full game is being released.
I used a P200 32MB, and for the most part, it was fine. It does get a bit choppy with lots of monsters on-screen at once and/or several players, though. For a little bit, I even used a 28.8 modem, and it wasn't that laggy. The major lag periods I think (and hope) were only due to them working out the kinks in the servers. In any case, yay, Blizzard!
For those who have been to [Everything 2] may have seen some people just [NFN]. Could CmdrTaco just be posting pointless stories in order to increase his story count? That is, is he just [PSFN]?
Lets see... "Atmel Chip for Embedded Linux Devices" has almost no posts under it. That means that nobody cares about it. That means that Taco posts pointless stories. That means he is just [Posting Stories for Numbers].
This sounds really neat, but the problems are many...
price
speech recognition - even pure English readers require the speaker to be clear and/or slow, and they aren't even always correct, and forget about it if there is a lot of background noise
translation - Babelfish isn't the best, but it demonstrates that translation software still has a way to go before it replaces human translators
However, if I could afford one of these, I suppose it would be better and faster than getting a pocket translator, typing in a phrase, and trying to pronounce the output.

on Steam you can buy Heretic for $5 and Hexen and its expansion for $5 each
Even better, it appears that according to http://steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=sub&SubId=440 , a bunch of id games ("id Super Pack") are on sale around this weekend (September 6 and 7th) for $35.
And http://steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=app&AppId=2360 shows that getting just the Hexen games ("Heretic + Hexen Collection") is $5.
Actually, XP Pro SP2c (which is already being sold) allows additional keys: http://oem.microsoft.com/downloads/public/seo/winxp_sp2c.htm .
Having old games made into movies helps. :)
I just saw a machinima short for Pac-Man and Space Invaders from LoadingReadyRun. Go to the page http://www.loadingreadyrun.com/vid.php?cat=MT and look for "Pachinima" to download a humorous 12 MB movie.
(And, to be on topic... yay emulators.)
Duplicate post. :)/ 165214&mode=nested /., so it was probably hidden from most people.

Then again, I could see this replacing current pr0n material.
Hmmm... ok, now I see the advantages. How much longer until I can buy one of these? :)
It sounds to me like this is just another scheme to get some marketing data.
It sounds like a good idea, but I'll believe it when I see^H^H^Hsmell it.
