There is a great piece of freeware called InCtrl for Windows systems that will show you just about anything you want to know about what an installer program does to your system when it runs. Clean, kinda customizable, and easy to use.
Hold on a second, I seem to recall seeing some of the video footage of some rallys Hitler put on and I know the 10's of thousands of chanting people weren't all part of the SS. They were mostly regular German citizens I would imagine.
Hitler did not rise to power through a coup with a few people. He did it through
massive popularity generated with his incredible innate charisma,
his perfect manipulation of the feelings of humiliation Germany felt from the defeat and subsequent reparations after WW1,
and the intense poverty that was rampant for which he found the perfect scapegoat, the Jews.
In the early years of the WW2 the Nazis didn't need to draft, the German people fully supported the war due to their Hitler fueled mass hysteria. It wasn't until later when the hysteria wore off and after they started running out of able bodied men to throw into the melee that they needed to draft.
The Allies made a distinction between the SS and regular soldiers because while regular soldiers may not have deserved special prosecution and it would have been impossible to distinguish between willing soldier and forced soldier, the SS were clearly in the Devil's entourage. That does not mean that regular German soldiers were innocent or were forced to fight. The SS was a small elite group made up mostly of Hitler's early supporters in his political career. There certainly weren't enough SS to shove 6 million Jews into those ovens. Why don't you go find one of the few elderly Jews left that have a barcode on their wrist how innocent the regular German soldier was? It was probably not the average German who made lampshades out of Jewish skin but they supported the ones who did and let that level of attrocity happen. It was certainly lots of regular German soldiers who caused THIS MANY TO DIE.
I may be wrong here but you seem to be a liberal living in dream world here. Most Americans don't know what's going on in the world, you are correct, but don't fool your Euro-loving self into thinking that the average European is any better informed. Ignorance knows no geographic borders. Apparently there is still plenty of ignorance in Germany.
Compassionate? This country donates more money to worldwide charity than all others combined. Don't even bring that into the picture.
I don't trust any politician and I certainly don't agree with some US foreign policy. Still it is clear to me that our country is getting shit on from all sides and based on the cold, hard facts that Colin Powell laid out before we invaded Iraq, that we had every right to stomp that little would be Hitler. Furthermore, it really makes me angry when Europeans and especially people in this country think we shouldn't have taken him down when it should be clear after 10+ years of toying with U.N. weapons inspections playing bait and switch games and an open supporter of terrorism.
So, please tell me Mr. Anonymous Coward poster, what is rational in this world? Would you interview a Kurd or a Kuwaiti and ask if the US is compassionate? Why don't you move to France please and conduct your own form of ignorance with people that will like you.
OMG I would have never seen this comment coming. Pac-Man Fever, whoa, I haven't thought of that song since it was popular in the early 80's. What's worse is that just remembered that I still have that song on vinyl somewhere. That one was better left to forgotten history man.
Really? I get 500 internal server error. My experience tells me that the IIS process is toast and needs to be restarted or there is a problem with the code in the ASP page causing IIS to burp.
Wouldn't a massive asteroid, say the likes of the one that cuased the creation of the Yucatan peninsula and the deepening of the Gulf of Mexico (discovered by no other than the Shoemaker-Levy dynamic duo based on satellite photos), cause some MAJOR seismic/techtonic/volcanic activity?
If someone punches you in the stomach while you are swallowing some milk, it's gonna shoot out of your mouth, nostrils, and possibly your ears.
Same thing with Earth. Punch it in the Yucatan and shit is gonna spray everywhere. Lava, dust, critters...everything.
The way I look at it is that we may have bad feelings about drug dealers, but we sure do like them drugs.
Based on my handle you know where I stand on that comment.
In this case, I'll admit it - I'm an addict. I don't mind getting bent over this time...

At least all of the extra features and added violence will qualify as a good reach-around on top of a quality fscking.
If you read the DOJ settlement, there is a provision in there that 3 person committee can hire enough staff with appropriate expertise at M$'s expenses to make sure that this gets enforced. And if they don't pay for these people, M$ is automatically not holding their end of the deal and so the DOJ will slap their wrist some more.
I have read through the pdf file that the DOJ has posted about the settlement details that was linked here on/. a couple of days ago. The settlement is full of available loopholes that any corporation with lawyers like MS could drive truckloads of code and monopolistic business through. How will you attempt to stopgap these possibilities?
Granted, iridium spikes can be caused volcanic activity. A worldwide layer couldn't be traced to the hit of a single meteorite. Your volcanic activity would indeed be the cause. Follow me on this.
I ask you to just think for a moment what the force of an impact that large would do to the plate techtonics of the earth. Hmmmm... I'm no geologist but I think that it would cause quite a bit of turmoil and backlash all over the planet. The shockwave rippling through outer core of the planet alone would surely cause a dramatic increase in the volcanic activity througout the world as the wave ripples through all the molten magma inside the mantle.
Now also consider the shockwave travelling through the crust itself. Any already stressed fault lines in the much younger crust would surely be triggered into earthquakes which are also known to spawn volcanic activity.
Now your dust cloud that deposits these global layers of whatever element or molecule you are trying to debate about orginates not only from the vaporization and impact of a large extraterrestrial rock but also from the massive volcanic ash and debris that is sure to be prevalent after such an impact.
Call me a hippy but too many people when they research these things fail to consider all the levels such large scale events would really have.
A common proverb of chaos theory and non-linear systems theory is that a butterfly flapping its wings on one side of the world can cause a hurricane on the other side.
I read Slashdot religiously every day and the Science section is the main reason. In general the Science posts to/. are great. This post was not. The article linked in this post is terrible. One sentence paragraphs comprise the entire article! Let's try to raise the bar back to where it was here people.
And in my experience...
$journal_name =~ m/(.*) star.*/i;
$tabloid = $1;
Please don't give me bad karma just because I prefer quality.
Now we have the perfect material with which to make stillsuits! Frank Herbert would shed a tear if he were alive.

Hands down one of the best slapstick movies ever.
"My mother hung me on hook once... once."
Anyone else notice that this is a JET POWERED vehicle? Laddy da, the Japanese have built an unmanned plane. Whoopee!
Maybe they could put a camera on it and have it join our other unmanned recon planes above Afghanistan and Iraq.
Sorry, mod me down but I am throuroughly unimpressed.

Rated R comment. Children turn away now...

My university taught Ada as the core language for some ungodly reason. This was our primary textbook and definitely a fine one.
