Why does OpenBSD use Blowfish to secure the passwd file rather than simply using an md5 hash like other unices? It seems to me that by using a symmetric cryptosystem would be more of a burden than a boon in this situation, since you have to keep the blowfish key secret, rather than just hashing the user passwords as typed and comparing them to the/etc/passwd entry.
I believe the laws state that satellite cannot carry broadcast networks only if you can receive them them over broadcast. So in your case, you should be able to get directv to send you NBC over satellite.
Translation of today's Ask Slashdot: "I'm a lazy bastard and can't investigate my own stories, so I want you guys to write a store about D.A.R.E. for me. Only serious comments please."
I don't know about you guys, but whenever my RAM goes bad, it usually won't even boot, so this patch is rather useless to me. It's even more useless when you consider I don't use 2.2 anymore.
From what I could tell from the story, this means that redhat will now be offered on all IBM servers, rather then just the intel-based servers as they previously did. This brings up an important point, the RS/6000 (and I believe the AS/400, it's hard to get good hardware info on that thing) run chips from the PowerX series of processors, which is part of the PowerPC family. This is all well and good except for one minor fact: Redhat has no PPC port, if you want one, you have to use YellowDog or Linuxppc in it's place.
The only explainations I can think of are that either RedHat has a PPC port in the works that we haven't heard about, or IBM will be doing the porting in-house.
I know I'll get moderated down for trolling or redundancy or somesuch, but I just have to say this: Enter Slash! You know you'll win. Of course getting it under the 512k line will be a little tricky but you can do it! We have faith in you!
As I recall, This is merely upholding a previous ruling that said pretty much the same thing, but the government appealed the case. So does this mean that law schools are actually teaching their students useful information? Too soon to tell.
I thought the JFK storylines were funny, the site would have been really boring without them. I wish he hadn't stopped updating the storyline about 5 releases ago.
I think you jumped the gun on declaring april fools. It's not even noon in many parts of the US, and since it's Saturday, many people might not have even checked/. before this announcement. April Fools day jokes don't work if you say, "April Fool! And now here's my joke..."
Hrmm... Software Etc has Quake 3 for linux in the collectors edition box, and they had Civilization call to power for linux, too. Don't see Jesus walking around, and I'm not getting sent to hell. You seem to be wrong.
For one thing, It's Ku Klux Klan, and for another, if you knew anything about either group, you'd know that they don't get along at all... Aslo, unlike you, the ACLU seems to have A CLU
I was in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland over the summer last year, and attempted to order Coca-Cola by asking for a "Coke", and all I got were blank stares until I said "Coca-Cola" and then they understood that I was just a stupid American.
The moral of this story, in switzerland, no-one refers to Coca-Cola as "Coke", so Coca-Cola should quit whining, especially since it's obviously not a case of domain squatting considering he intends to use it as an anti-drug site.
I'm sorry if I'm being a wet blanket here, but do we even know this is real? It's not that hard to fake an e-mail, and as has been proven before, the/. posters are not the most vigilent bunch of people on the planet.
That can only go to 1 person, CowboyNeal. I have two reasons: 1) He's posted so few times he's not even on the Hall of Fame, 2) It'd be humorous to see him hug himself.

Well, Either if the PowerX is a member of the PPC family or not, they're in the same kernel port, which is good enough for me.
And yes, I know there's a debian port to PPC, but I only mentioned linuxppc and yellowdog because they're both RPM-based, as is redhat.

I didn't know that there was a schedule. I coulda sworn that the official statement of kernel releases was that "It'll be out when it's done."
The hovercraft that used to cross the Channel were just recently replaced and are looking for a good home. I don't know about you, but I'd like one.
And don't forget the lack of 13375p34k.
Wasn't Juan Gutierrez the villian on Freakazoid! You know, the guy who's voice was done by Ricardo Montoban?
Ohh... well then, I guess Slash won't make it after all.

Just get Adidas to sue the bank since their indoor soccer shoe line is called "Samba"

Well, you don't speak sense, you don't accuse.
They don't have to rent an aircraft carrier. Remember all those TV specials about the special FX on Titanic? They could make the Raft the same way.

Unfortunately, due to the astronomical distances involved, and the limited speed of light, the alien message actually turned out to be the 432nd post.

This isn't really big news, horses and donkeys have been having mules since who knows when.
