    Ever try to "fix" a corrupt access database? Never could find the tool that would let me walk the data file and fix the pointers. Oh yes, it broke because of the poor built-in multi-user access. More then one client and watch your performance go out the window. DB2/Oracle/Postgres or the only way to go. (And if you must use a windows only, pc only product then www.rbase.com is for you).

    I think the DOJ ought to investigate this as a possible anti-trust violation by Microsoft. All evidence seems to point that Microsoft killed this product to stifle competition.

    Depends, if the webmaster has to go to a class to understand HTML then they are just plain stupid and shouldn't be in a computer related field in the first place. (Yes, I know people like this and I get sick everytime I have to talk to them.)

    It usually takes me about 2 minutes to change the board...no futzing needed. A torx T-10 is usually required though. If the drive is under warranty then I use this to recover data, replace the old board and send it in.

    Friction is involved here too. Friction generates heat, heat causes component failure on the IDE board. Next time you think your hard drive is bad because it goes "klunk" and sounds "bzzzt" try replacing the IDE board first.

    I've found that most of my drives fail because the IDE board fails not because of the moving parts.
