  1. I just don't get the Gnome devs somtimes on Ars Technica Looks At GNOME 2.6 [updated] · · Score: 3, Insightful

First off for a minor update it seems totally nuts to jump to a completely different paradigm for file management. Its just wrong throwing this out to users who are used to the other way of handling files for years. This should have been done at 3.0, not at 2.6. Second, the old behavior should STILL be default. The spatial setting should be secondary but let the user know he/she can try it. You don't just switch the way things have been in such a major way with no transition period. That's the thing about Gnome they seem to just make major changes to the way you interact with your PC between releases without any notice.

Another example that comes to mind is the way they up and switched the "Yes" "No" "Cancel" dialog out of the blue. Right now the way Gnome does it is just bass ackwards to the way 95% of the world is used to. Sure I'm used to it now, but any Windows or KDE user who tries out Gnome will find themselves clicking on the wrong button because Gnome has it backwards. That's what happened to me after getting used to the old Gnome way.

The people in charge at Gnome just don't seem to want to ever settle down and let people get comfortable with the way they interact with the OS. Next release the File Selector will probably be further modified and you'll have to relearn they yet again. It just seems that there is all of this talk about Gnome and their superior HIG methods yet the things that shouldn't be changing get changed with every release. Pick a file selector, pick a file manager setup, pick a file confirmation dialog and stick with it, Forever. Stop changing the basic ways in which we interact with the OS with every release.

Novell may finally allow ISO's of some low end form of Suse to be released but their main goal is combining their proprietary technologies with Suse. So now you'll see a Suse with a GPL Yast but proprietary NDS,Groupwise, Zenworks, Ximian connector etc. Novell btw also doesn't have the best track record for acquisitions and business management for the last 10 years. I'm not advocating a switch to Linux. Without the support of Adobe, Microsoft, Intuit, Macromedia, and all of those other ISV's Linux is still very lacking when it comes to the software that most people want to use. But the whole "what to do if something breaks" theory is a non-issue for Linux just like it is on Windows. His plan for reigning in our massive deficit was to cut taxes for the richest of rich and then wage war while spend $87 billion on a foreign country that was never a threat to us in the first place. His ties to Enron alone are enough to want him out. For the love of God I have NO idea how a scandal of the scope of Enron didn't sink the Presidency while a extramarital affair did. Meanwhile Bush squandered the greatest chance for peace in our time by calling all of the world "Evil" after 9/11. After that horrible day in September almost every country in the world that was hostile towards us was willing to help us stomp out terrorism and work with the US. Instead Bush being the cowboy that he is say a big fuck you to the world and the good will that was there vanished overnight. Now the Mid-East, The Far East, and Europe all rightfully think of America as a "play by its own rules" bully. A role that we could have finally gotten away from.

Let's also not forget that on 9/11 while the bombs were falling Bush sat in a classroom for several minutes doing NOTHING. Then while the rest of us were shitting our pants because we didn't know what was happening Bush hid out in some mountain refusing to come on the air to let us know that "everything is alright and I'm in control". Now that coward who didn't even serve his full term in the military is going to use 9/11 and the fallen as a prop to get him reelected? You HAVE to be fucking kidding me.

So yes, let's be realistic. Bush IS a failure and he needs to go. His economic policies have done nothing and his desire to unify Church and State while raping our Constitution are an embarassment. Not to mention the fact that he wants to hold Americans without trial or due process indefinitely. This is a man who has NO respect for the citizens who put him in office.
