But, after watching it on video a few times with my nephew, it grew on me. Maybe I'm naive or just really wanting for this film to be good (probably both) but, I think I started to take it for what it was.

If one were to think of it as the first in a series of films, difficult to do when you have the middle part of the story firmly ingrained in you head, they would notice introduction to characters as well as character development, plot setting, as opposed to plot handling and a nice unfulfilling ending that leaves you yearning for more (although that did happen, I don't quite think it happened for the reasons intended).

Maybe in time, after the three prequels are finished, when we can look back, be dorks, watch the epic in its entirety and maybe, just maybe, see Episode I for what it weas inteded to be.

people hadn't abused Napster like they have. This whole situation might not have existed.

I work in my schools computer lab doing the menial tasks like helping students with the formatting of their papers and telling people just what power the key has. My most asked help, though, is aiding students in converting Mp3 files to CDA so they can burn the music they just downloaded and play it on their CD players and stereos. I do my best to tell them that they should probably save themselves a lot of time and trouble and just buy the damn album. The usual response is, "But this is what Napster's for!" Hmmm... Is it really?

Am I one of the seemingly very few that uses Napster in a responsible way? Do people think the RIAA would have had a problem with Napster if users were getting a few songs from an artist or band that they heard of to see if they were really something worth buying (radio really doesn't cut it.)? I use Napster regularly, without any sign of conscience. Why? Because I get songs that I either own already or songs by artists that I'm planning on buying. I must say that more times than not, I'm happy with what I heard and a do make the purchase, while on the other hand, I've been thwarted by the music that I heard (Wait, that's it, the RIAA is worried they're going to lose money because of all the tired meaningless pop they're putting out! Sorry.).

I have to say that when (If is out of the question by now isn't it?) the free fun stops, all in all, it would have been brought upon by the very users that are screaming that their "freedom" is being taken away, so what good will an off-shore Napster server really do? People will still abuse it. People will still act like vultures and try to worm not their way around a system (College kids :o) but around a pocketbook.

Since people are granted the "flimsy" protection of an envelope, without really having to worry about their privacy being invaded, would it be far-fetched if we were granted "flimsy" encryption as well?

What I mean is, envelopes aren't the most protective of barriers for the ingegrity of our letters, but it suits the purpose for general mail. I don't hear of many drug lords sending kilos of heroine in an envelope (and if they do, then they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law on the principle of being a dumb-ass-at-large alone). If goverments think that sending email with a not-so-heavy-encryption is a sign of wrong doing than envelopes should give off the same feeling.

If people were given the opprotunity to know that they could send messages with a low-level encryption, I seriously doubt it would do the unlawful abiding citizens any good to use it as well. There has to be some sort of privacy granted to the people that use it for that sake of it, as opposed to those who just want to cover their tracks. Instead of taking rights away from people, goverments should be trying to make sure that there are ways to protect ourselves (which, they say, this is all about anyhow, right?). If I could be guaranteed that my email sent using PGP was safe enough to fly across this vaste open network of computers and be safe from prying eyes, as well as the prying eyes of the goverment, I would be pretty darn content. I mean, that is the same feeling one gets when they drop a letter into the mail box, right?

Something else to think of is that, if one were to play the devil's advocate, and believe that all of this controversy was the goverments trying to keep the law abiding citizens safe, than it really shouldn't matter. That is, unless it's in the case of one of the other posters that used encryption to send root passwds. I think back to the story about the U.S.P.S. and what they would and wouldn't send. More specifically the fact that they opened up a package because the weight seemed ill-proportioned to the size of the package (it was a brick wrapped in gift-wrap). If the anaology of the envelope would hold true, than doesn't the same for encryption?

I'm not saying that I agree with invasion of privacy for the sake of it, but, if you're really not doing anything that's wrong, why worry about it? Maybe people have to stop watching Conspiracy Theory and actually do something to help goverments embrace encrytion for the rights of citizens.

Oh dear /god!!! After about two days of working with this guy it dawned on me that he has no idea of what a network is outside of the MS box and that he went to your basic lets-go-to-four-weeks-of-classes-and-turn-out-more -paper-mcse's-than-mcdonalds-sells-fries. Because I have no certifications and no "formal" training outside of this school, he felt it was necassary to take every idea I had and throw it out the window (or transform it into some sort of windows implementation).

He said he was on a budget, so I suggested running a Linux based network. Nope. He said he couldn't get into the RedHat server, so I did for him, then doubted that I was "actually in it. He said he needed to cut down the spending of the new boxes he was going to get. but insisted that he needed to get PIIIs. Doh. So then it came time to find a software based firewall. After i told him about SmoothWall he said that there was no way he was going to use a firewall based on free software. Then he read an article on his own (that was probably his biggest revelation ever!). I'll be installing this firewall next week on a PII350 with 128M and a 10GHDD, whatta goof.

This guy's no more than 27 years old, has a sleek lil volvo ride and dresses pretty damn hip (the later two are probably the things that got him hired), so i can't begin to believe that the age of a boss has anything to do with the treatment of the people under him when listening skills are involved.

What it comes down to IMHO is how much knowledge and forward thinking the person has. Also, how much is someone really willing to leave their ego at the testing center and be ready to learn from someone else once they acheive certificate status.

and I thought that it was very entertaining (not in the same sense as wrestling, which I don't watch) for what it was. I wasn't looking for NFL calibre play, so I new I was there looking for some type of game. I have to admit, I was very pleasently surprised.

The few things that stuck out with me were:

Yes, the camera work is a great idea - I can't say it was done well because, well, it wasn't, but, we are talking about the first weekend of this. Having a couple of camermen (read: targets) ON the field during play was a great idea, I liked being able to "be in the tackle" and I also liked the view from the camera suspended above the field behind the Quarterback (while a columnist from The Chicago Tribune said that "there's a reason why people want tickets on the fifty yard line").

As for play, well, the opener wasn't all that it was cracked up to be. The televized game was (this is also a segue into a con) The New York / New Jersey Hitmen vs. The Las Vegas Outlaws, it was a trouncing!!! The game ended up being 19-0 LV. In the 4th quarter they switched games over to The Orlando Rage vs. The Chicago Enforcers. This was what seemed to be a very decent game. But, the question that was running through my mind the whole night was - "I'm from Chicago. I live in Chicago. Why the hell am i watching NY/NJ play LV when my home team is playing?!?!?!"

Granted there are pure hard-core football fans but those fans are more of a fan for their home team so one of the many things that will have to be looked over is the regionalizing of games. I watched the first games because I wanted to see if the XFL was going to be football, not a show of tits and ass and wrestling hoaxes. I'm going to stay a fan NOT because of the XFL but because of the teams and The Enforcers in particular. Yes, there was a huge showing of tits and ass and in most cases, thats a good thing. But, if i want to see half-naked women on a saturday night or sunday afternoon, I'd give my girlfriend a kiss on the cheek and see a fully-naked woman infront of me (and her breasts aren't fake)

The trips into the locker room (which were heavily hyped) were less than spectacular. The miking up of more than 20 people made for quintessential four-star-five-second-delay-goofs (maybe they need seven). They also have to get betterannouncers. There was virtually no insight into the game or who the players were. But I did have the opprotunity to have Gov. Jesse "The Body" Ventura scream at me for over 2 hours.

If you were/are a fan of old-school football when guys actually got popped this may be for you 'cause the rules made the game. I'm not trying to say this is some hard-core rough-nose football that is sure as hell going to impress everyone (I've seen Lawrence Taylor play live) but these guys are out to win. The starting salary for Quarterbacks is $50,000, Kickers get $35,000 and everyone else gets $45,000. The incentive is that with every regular season game, the winning team splits a pot of $100,000. The championship pays a pot of $1,000,000. So in fact, they arent paid all that much to play - but they do get paid more to win.

    Other noteworthy rules are:

No fair catches. Recievers are given a 5 yard "halo" that can't be breached until he catches the ball. I can tell you now, as long as its only a five yard penalty for breaching it, the kicking team is going to do all they can to kill the poor-lame-duck-reciever.

One man-in-motion towards the line of scrimmage before the snap.

Bump-and-run all the way down the field. If the Defensive End can, they can have their hands on the wide reciever throughout the entire play with a few exceptions. 1) Until the ball is in the air 2) The Reciever passes him (no hitting from the side or from the back). This can maked timed plays (eg. 12 and In) very difficult.

No coin toss. The ball is set in the middle of the field and one player from each team run 20 yds and fight for posession of the ball. Kinda cool but, a player from Orlando (I believe) seperated his shoulder during this and was out of the game before it even began.

The four games (eight teams) are played on seperate nights, two on saturday and two on sunday.

The ratings showed that people were definitely interested but that was the first weekend, let's see what happens in the weeks to come and if they can keep their fan-base. All in all *I* thought it was an enjoyable weekend of football and seeing how it is in its infancy - I'm sure it'll only get better.
