That one is easy. (I posted about it farther up in the thread.)
The self-selection goes the other way; in general teaching is done by people who don't mind the lower pay of that profession who ALSO don't have a high risk/stigma associated with false accusations of sexual misconduct, or who don't get labels a "child molester" for wiping a kid's butt. (A career killing and life ruining accusation.)
Send a woman teacher camping with four pre-adolecents and everyone asked them if they had a good time. Doe the same thing with a male teacher and everyone asks them if they were inappropriately touched.
YOUR argument lacks any significant basis of reality.
I know several male teachers, and they ALL say they are extremely careful not to even LOOK like they COULD have done anything REMOTELY off. Some of them said if they knew beforehand, they wouldn't have gone into that profession.
Go over to Fark.com for a while, male teachers that have relationships (even with over 18 females) are villified, the females; "LOLsheHOT" "whymyteachernotlikethat"....
It's an entire "science" dedicated to proving that it's ok to cheat on your wife, because it's natural. Well, A)that's crap, and B)something being natural doesn't actually make it worth doing. I mean, naturally I'd crap all over the place, instead of in a toilet. I can't see anyone suggesting that has advantages.
Strawman much? Since when does studying biology get interpreted as a normative instruction set for what people SHOULD do?
You are one of those crazies that thinks talking to a homosexual will rub off on you and make you gay aren't you.
Your leap of logic here is just as stupid... that's fundy logic for you I guess.
Palin supports teaching of creationism alongside evolution in biology classes in public schools.
She stated as such on live TV in 2006 during her gubernatorial race debates.
There was backpedaling of course, but the backpedaling itself made it clear she either doesn't know what science is, or doesn't know creationism isn't science.
Her record is full of such things, look them up yourself if you want to find them. It's not Slashdot's job to educate you about political failures and has-beens.
Confusing creationsim with science makes her a whack job. Doing so in a political debate on live TV makes it her POSITION to be a whack job.
His theory had a scope that doesn't conflict with relativity under most of the conditions that appear within the human experience.
If you use numbers and values that apply within the scope of the theory, it works great and has tremendous predictive value. Whole industries are built on using just his stuff.
Yes, it doesn't apply to some values (that's where Relativity comes in) but it isn't wrong. It just isn't complete enough. Being "not complete" is not "debunked".
You haven't been talking to the right religious folk.
In one of my time-wasting but slightly entertaining meetings with the jehovah's witnesses, they stated repeatedly under no uncertain terms that "wives submit to your husbands" was about taking orders from the man of the house, not having one's own will, etc.
YOUR flavor of useless christianity may be less radical, but quite a few of them do take it just like "submit" as in BDSM.
In either case, both islam and christianity are very strong indicators of mental retardation so the discussion is pointless.
Not that being in Texas doesn't make one a retard, it's probably due just to the christianity. We should sell it back to Mexico, they already invaded the place anyway.
BGP will automatically route around this "damage".
Note however, in some cases there IS only one route. There are not major backbone lines running along every interstate and state highway like you seem to think.
Sometimes, the data would need to cross an ocean for the "other" route, which works for smaller amounts of data, but not two companies worth of peering points.
Yeah, stuff will go down and goobers will run into telephone poles and backhoes, oh the backhoes!
But, cutting off a huge network because your lawyer wanted to go on vacation when THE SHIT WOULD WORK HAD YOU NOT DELIBERATELY TURNED IT OFF.
That ain't "best effort", that's "dick move".
As such, it's breach of contract with every single one of their customers at once. It would be in their rights to all simply stop paying the bill, I wonder how long their cashflow would last? More than likely the VP or board or whatever would pull their head out of their asses and realize the back room IT guy that will likely hear about this has a big voice in the tech stuff companies buy... and they would fix it.
OBL stated under no uncertain terms why he did it.
"Military bases in the holy land" (Saudi Arabia).
To bad that he has (had) no right to decide what the Saudi government did or does.
It's the equivalent of a white guy shooting a black guy in the head because the dead guy has a white fiancee.
It was crazy, it was unprovoked violent crazy for stupid reasons. (Religion is always a stupid reason.)
He's fucking nuts, that gets us really far with "knowing why" now doesn't it. Might as well claim playing Euchre too much was the cause. The PROPER response to that type of crazy is being locked up, when it's a significant portion of the populace of a lawless country, extermination will do.
Just a few malicious ad networks or compromised servers and the 1x1 in HTML yet full blown CP image will automagically appear in the temp cache of the browser.
We all know virus spreading ad networks don't exist (NOT), of COURSE nobody could spread child porn that way either.
And the web interfaces for sending SMS messages allow the web user to enter in any "from" phone number they wish.
Anybody that believes the caller ID or the source of the SMS text message deserves what's coming to them.
The great unwashed Joe-Six packs are finally starting to understand that the "from" address on an email message does not necessarily mean it's actually from that address at least.
Yup, because if a solution doesn't fix every fucking problem in the world, it's not worth doing.
I'll be sure to tell my plumber not to try using the plunger because a plunger won't cure cancer.
No dumbass, a lost laptop with tens of thousands of users information on it is not directly equivalent to what a semi-hostile government body in a foreign country might do.
Except, those that get killed by falling vending machines are always shaking it to get free product.
So an ordinary person can reduce their probability to zero simply by not trying to get free product by process of shaking the machine.
That is NOT true of risks of being killed by terrorism. Either mitigating the small risk is costly and life altering (buying and living on a ranch in some remote place, rarely leaving) or not predictable, and therefore cannot be mitigated by simple action.
A better number for this comparison would be "falling in the shower". Certain subsets of Slashdot demographic aside, everybody washes once in a while.
Keep in mind the typical "flyby" sequence involves applying full power on the climb out.
They could be throttling up. For a hint, look for a burst of smoky exhaust that indicates increase in throttle.

It's a double standard, deal with it.

Well it sure as heck isn't if you look at torrent populations.
Pop, rap, rock, punk, classical, the freaking Wiggles, etc. are all easier to find than country.
Either it's just not popular, or something about the people that like it keeps them from....
Oh.
Nevermind.
Newton was not "debunked".

Sure.
If you start by assuming "god exists" at the beginning of your argument like he did.. then sure!
No kidding, my friend Goat Se and his store Lemon Party Liquors had a very similar problem.
The constituency on the right stops painting the entire media as "commie liberul media with liberul bias" brush they'll get a bit better coverage.
Let's see your numbers on Palin douchebag submitter. She was dragged out of the backwaters to make more media interest and succeeded* at that.
Look at mee! I can pick and choose categories to make a weak non-statistically significant difference.
*if by 'succeeded' you don't distinquish between all media exposure and the folks simply pointing and laughing in print.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temperate_rainforest
Nope. Not a necessary qualification for rain forest. "Rain Forest" needs well... um... lots of rain to qualify.
We have rain forest in northern United States, and Chile and Argentina have a bunch on the southern tip of your continent.

Stop lying.
Just stop it. GP was talking about a tax bracket consisting of 35k - 125k earners.
You came back with TOTAL TAX INTAKE numbers as proof what he said was not true.
So, you lied.
I have the feeling I am going to get sick of calling people out on this subject in this thread....
Be very careful when anything with a "%" is used in as a ratio, and as the name of a group of people as a way to classify them into that group.
(Meaning, you should be wary of the OP, parent poster, he's trying to pull a fast one, i.e. lying to you.)
Here's a detailed walk through of why;
http://jafiwam.blogspot.com/2005/02/on-taxes.html
You don't even have to hack.
Just a few malicious ad networks or compromised servers and the 1x1 in HTML yet full blown CP image will automagically appear in the temp cache of the browser.
We all know virus spreading ad networks don't exist (NOT), of COURSE nobody could spread child porn that way either.
Unless you are the plucky comic relief, did you ever think about that?
And the web interfaces for sending SMS messages allow the web user to enter in any "from" phone number they wish.

The great unwashed Joe-Six packs are finally starting to understand that the "from" address on an email message does not necessarily mean it's actually from that address at least.
Being obnoxious geeks is a Slashdot tradition.
And, seriously, posting AC and getting all high and mighty? How do we know you aren't the same ass posting all the first post stuff?
Sorta makes you wonder what box is hosting that don't it?
Like, maybe if it has been patched or not... or something.
[winkwink]

You don't have to install it to use it.
It runs from a folder, thumb drive, floppy, CD ROM or even across the internet.
You can have encrypted Truecrypt volumes all over the place and never once save the executable to the hard drive nor "install it".
Only while the volume is actually mounted is there hard evidence on the machine, after a restart the drivers are not in memory anymore and it's gone.
Sure, it's a pain in the rear to do that and not often how it's used, but it CAN be used that way.
I suggest you actually _use_ the fucking thing before spouting off what it can and can't do.
Except, those that get killed by falling vending machines are always shaking it to get free product.

That would be a "Palin".
