You can simply check to see if a certian number of files have a modification date later then the current date. If this is the case then the date has been set back.

What about the fact that if you provided X number of indian scalps you got a plot of farm land?

In November of 1755 Lieutenant George Scott replaced Monckton as commander of Beausejour. Scott was a good choice for the British because he displayed an almost hysterical hatred of the Acadians and sought to brutally destroy all those who dared remain. He at first attempted to draw Boishebert into a trap into a conventional battle. When this failed he ordered the death of all Acadian males over the age of twelve that were at large. He also offered bounties for any and all Indian scalps. He paid regardless of whether the scalps belonged to Indians or Acadian. Being captured by his Rangers usually meant a death sentence to all Acadians.

I do miss the old canned rations with the canned ham and canned bacon. The bad thing about these new rations is that you need water. The old cans you could put on the engine of your truck to heat up.

I never did get to experience those but the new ones aren't too bad cold either. Smilee

In canada we typically call them REM's (Ready to eat meals) or Individual Meal Packs (IMPs) however it is a similar idea.

The difference however, is that the Canadian ones taste GOOD. You usually get:
    1. Your main meal. (things like mac and cheese, stew, salsbary steak, chicken, chili etc)
    2. Tea.
    3. Coffee
    4. Hot Choclate

    6. Some kinda fruit based destert
    7. A little bread loaf
    8. Peanut butter, jam, salt/pepper and sometimes spices
    9. Some bonus items like instant mashed potatoes, instant dressing..

I remember really enjoying these things. I believe they had a shelf life of about 4-5 years.

I am working for a small programming firm on a CO-Op term this summer and the one thing I have noticed that they are missing is a CVS...so I think I will see if I can implement one there. This firm usually does single programmer type programming projects but I want to have a CVS both to take care of the single programmer type projects.

Is there any particular book that anyone would suggest for a WIN CVS (we are a windows shop) system considering I am just lerning CVS's. As well... are there any nice graphical front ends that are open source that I could implement in the Visual C++ IDE?

  11. Dell and AMD chips on AMD Challenges P4 With 1.33Ghz · · Score: 1

Ok this has been bothering me for quite some time now.

I am not quite sure why everyone is so bothered with the fact that Dell chooses to not sell AMD based systems. The simple fact is:
Anyone who knows alot about building computers NEVER buys a pre-made system. They buy the parts and build it themselves.

So what ends up happening is:
the people who feel the most strongly against Intel are the ones who don't buy pre-made systems in any case. It doesn't matter if they are AMD OR Intel systems.
The people that actually want a pre-built system that is Intel based go to Dell and get a quality system.

Since most slashdotters are not going to buy any of the machines that Dell sells please tell me why Dell should care what you guys think? If only selling Intel based systems works for them why not just leave them alone?

Oh and before someone points out that they just happen to be very experienced with computers and still buy pre-built systems. Well, there is a simple solution for you: Don't buy a Dell!

  13. Comp Sci VS Software Eng. VS Elect. Eng on Computer Science vs. Computer Engineering? · · Score: 1

dont think the difference between Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and ?normal? Computer Science is that confusing. As one poster said:

Think of an Electrical Engineer as a geek who designs computer chips with a minor in math.
Think of a Computer Engineer as a geek who designs computer chips with a minor in Computer Science.
Think of a Computer Science major as a geek who programs computers, and doesn't design hardware.

This is pretty close to the truth unless you get into the Computer Science options.

At my school ( Lakehead University ) we have the following options in Computer Science : Science Option: This program has a lot of classes in programming
Business Option: CS classes mixed with business classes. This makes you into more of an "IT" person.
Hardware Option: Lost of hardware classes with lots of programming class mixed in. (This option kinda blurs the line between Computer Engineering and Comp. Sci. )

Oh and to top it all off we now have a software engineering option under the engineering faculty !

This even further confuses students because now they don't know if they want to be a Computer Engineer, Software Engineer or a Computer Scientist.

This decision for me wasn't much of a problem because Lakehead decided to remove most of the Computer Science classes out of the Software Engineering faculty and replace them with Electrical Engineering classes. Since I wanted to be a programmer/sys. admin I simply transfered to Comp. Sci from the 'Software' Engineering faculity. This IMVHO makes the Software Engineers here less Software Engineers and more Electrical Engineers that have done a little bit more programming than the normal EE. This seems to be similar to what many Canadian universities have done so soon we are going to see a bunch of so called Software Engineers in the marketplace who don't know much about software development at all.

Does anyone else have any comments on the difference between Software Engineers, Computer Engineers and Comp. Science students?
