After the Script was altered it worked but he was confused nonetheless

Slackware is also very stable thats why it doesn't use GCC 3.1 out of the box.
That would probably also mean that Slackware is useless for C++ development. GCC 2.95 is just not very standards compliant for C++ development. But it is a very stable C compiler.

Is there something about GCC 2.95 we should know. I assume you are talking about maybe a STL problem.

Really the best thing about Slackware is that it is like C. Not like assembly so that you have to do everything. But not like higher level languages where everthing is done with magic tricks. When was the last time you changed a setting and your distro changed it back. That sort of behaviour is unlikely on Slackware.

The user has full control. There is no crappy config tools to get in the way. This is why it is so good for learning Unix and Linux because you have access to the raw system.

In slackware if I want to change the bitdepth of X windows I have to edit it with a text file. At first this might seem silly but when a Redhat user is trying to do something complicated his fancy tools hold him back. Slack users do not have that problem, they understand how the system works.

Censorship in Australia is like the wearing of seatbelts in America. It is not mandatory. By law we are meant to use filtering software. But there is no enforcement of that law.

So basically the mythical blacklist exists but can do nothing to us. No one ever checks that the filtering software is on.

Normally ISPs are meant to use filtering software but consumers can opt out of it if they use their own filters. There are no real approved filters, none that I know of. The only filter I use is my mind. Mainly to watch out for the link traps on ./

The reason this is happening is the government is too gutless to legislate real laws. Instead it trys to appease the conservatives with laws that sound good on paper but don't work in reality. In particular this man is responsible

    Brian Harradine, Senator for Tasmania

Sen Harradine is one of those people who hold power in the senate. Because he is not with either of the major factions they need to bribe him with his legislation to get their legislation passed. Basically he is not a problem because the major political parties Labour and Liberal dance around his silly issues.

Here is some of Harradine's first speech.

I was committed to uplifting the poor, to championing the cause of the underprivileged - not only in this country but also in the developing countries to our near north - and to representing the aspirations of the workers.

    And

Why was all that pressure exercised? Because almost 10 years ago I declared that the friends of the communists were attempting to silence me. The friends of the communists have never silenced me and I do not intend to be silenced by them in this chamber.

For example, with many of MS's rather bland tools, they include C/C++ headers to access varous API's and whatnot.

The headers themselves are copyrighted. You cannot mix copyrights like that it's not legal. Ask any programmer. This is just Microsoft FUD. The issue of copyright is very clear in programming.

However, you dont have all the source, since the ADO headers from MS link to compiled binary code.

This is the main problem not understanding how programming works. The headers by themselves are useless, you actually need the code they reference. Otherwise you have produced nothing. Your thinking of linking against a library. That is allowed as it does not combine the source code. How can it be ambiguous if you never had the source in the first place?

like you develop some GPL software, put it out there, and a competitor takes it, forks, and keeps it closed. The question is what can you sue for? You havent suffered any damages (you were giving it away to start with!), and it is hard to prove anything actually even happened.

You haven't lost anything. They cannot take your ownership of the original code away from you. You always own that especially under the GPL. Forking implies that they have added their own work to the code. Not that they can suddenly own the entire codebase. Liscence forking isn't possible unless the liscence allows it and the GPL does not.

You haven't show the unclarity of the legalities you have just shown your own misunderstanding. This is the same thing Microsoft is trying to do. Try to make people who have no clue fear what they have no need to fear.
