Fuck you. In all of your examples the early days of those technologies were things that regular people as you called it "tinkered" with. I'd rather have tools that people can change then your dumbing down of the modern day Ford that you can't "tinker with". Linux will always be this and that is why it is so important for the people, even the "unwashed, non-technical masses" as you say, because they are the ones that need the flexibility, and the freedom the most!!!

YOU ARE SO FIRED! writes "It seems that the Swiss Robert Kennedy College (with the aptly named website) has released CollegeLinux, a Linux distribution based off of Slackware, to the public. If only my employees could've used this in school - I wouldn't have to fire them so much! See the interview with the dean of the school for more information."

    Let's recap it -
YOU ARE SO FIRED!!. If only my employees could've used this in school.

I can just say that this bullshit additude towards different people pisses me off. Don't fire them. Teach them. Just because someone learns something different does not mean that they can not learn something different. Don't be such a total fucking asshole towards people and slashdot should be higher then posting this crap.

  16. e-com vs. phone order on Encryption Key Retrieval Method Invented · · Score: 4

I consider buying things over the web to be in the same league as ordering items over the phone. When people order things over the phone, they are dealing with a PERSON. How do they know that the operator that is taking their order is not going to rip them off, or do something stupid with their credit card number?

Plus, in both cases you don't know if the credit card information is being STORED properly. I've seen plenty of discount e-com setups that will have a fancy site certificate making it look secure. Then when the form is submited a plain text email gets sent to some email address so that someone can manually punch it in.
