I think the pigeon part of the email was first used as a joke regarding the university network (i.e. IP over Pigeon http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1149.txt). Then the Attrition guys, realizing how technically ignorant Shriber was decided to play the pigeon thing a little longer and used it as a way to identify the "customer".

hopefully someone will set up a torrent (I would, but I don't have a place to post it)
You can try this next time you need to host a medium-sized video file. Should do the job.
  3. How about K9? on 11 Anti-spam Products Tested · · Score: 1

So how come K9 is not in the list of tested products? It is small, ultra efficient and it doesn't cost a thing. Same goes with POPFile which uses Bayes to classify not only spam from ham but also works as a smart filtering proxy.

  5. Not MBps!!! Mbps! on Verizon Taking FTTP Installation Orders · · Score: 1

Am I the only one noticing that the article is not accurate? The Verizon webpage says they're offering mbps transfer rates. Megabits per second. NOT MegaBytes per second.

So instead of $39.95 for 5MB/2MB what you will really get is 5Mbps/2Mbps which comes down to around 640 Kilobytes per second and an upstream of 256 Kilobytes per second.

Common mistake. Make sure you do not capitalize the 'b' letter when talking about network bandwidth.

Well I wouldn't choose this one.
Let's say a good ExactAudioCopy v0.9 extractor (reads up to 80 times the same part to avoid errors) coupled with a nice LAME 3.92 win32 DLL would do the job !
LAME is among the best MP3 compressor so far.
They are both freeware and don't need install

Well what did you say when you bought this 1.2GB hard drive 5 years ago ? Wasn't it a bit like "What the heck am I gonna do with all this space" ?
Hard drive space is increasing because we need it. Well this part is like the old chicken-or-egg-first question...

Wow! I'm telling you this tool is powerful. Being a non-english I tried to start from scratch by reseting the dictionary. In a few sentences I already had a lot of letters well predicted.

Man I love when people are so smart!
Yet I agree with a lot of you guys. This will probably be better for unable people but I would love to use it on my Palm.

  9. Can't you imagine? on GBA Getting Bluetooth · · Score: 1, Insightful

Can't you imagine all the games you'll be able to play? With all those hackers around I already see some Quake port for the GBA ;)
Picture this: Keeping fragging your friends at work while you're sitting on the throne... Well some games are better played with a mouse anyway

But still I see great future for this bluetooth addon. Like Instant Messaging is something I've always been looking forward to. Especially on mobile agents. And bluetooth could also give the GBA some video / audio capabilities. How about listening to your MP3s on the GBA?

I may be dreaming here. But hey who's not...

  10. Now that's what I call a useless job on Finding Cheat Codes For A Living · · Score: -1, Offtopic

Funny how you can get paid to do such a useless job! Why that? Because cheat codes are part of the whole marketing business. It has been proven that a video game without cheating is either non-profitable or a multiplayer-based game.

So game companies *ask* programmers to create built-in cheats... In order to release these cheats afterwards. So the game can be sold even to the laziest rich-ass kids ;)

Now what I don't understand is how a company can afford to pay people for 'trying' cheat codes when we know that this code will be out anyway. To be the first to release it? I wonder if this would manage to get a half-day worker paid.

  11. Something strange with the version I played on Uplink · · Score: 1

I played this game on a friend's computer and soon stopped. Thing is you're able to *downgrade* your gateway. In my case I chose to install a modem that I then learnt was slower than the one actually included. So here I was with a slow modem not able to crack any password or retrieve any data files. I was stuck.

I hope some patches are available.
