i dont remember how it went, but was something like
Dogbert "my patent for no-click purchases was approved today" "sure some whiners are going to complain that it was obvious" looks at dilbert "you better hurry and click something or else i will have to ship you some books"
Over here in Holland we can get ADSL at 8mbit/512kb I am using it now (from my work), but normally it costs from around 90 - 120 euros a month like for example here
isnt america supposed to have invented the net...maybe get microsoft to innovate in the broadband market over in the ole america
Isnt there also the problem with the fact that if you cant make a backup/copy of your music, then that violates your fair use rights (we have that in the EU right?) yeah? So then, this shouldnt be to hard to stop. Also, I am sure that this kind of copy protection would make it even worse when a cd gets scratched....more cd purchases....couldnt make a copy, the original gets a bit scratched, buy it again....
so then, technically, according to these labels, we are not buying the rights to listen to the music, we are just buying the rights to listen to the music ON THIS MEDIUM....which i dont think can possibly be true...
and the thing that i found amusing is that the BMG people said that it may not work on certain car CD players....amazing....but the funny thing is that this should piss off some suits (imagine some BMW driving idiot lawyer....hey, my britney cd isnt playing....).....
I'm Australian, living in the Netherlands, but anyways,
I remember as a kid, I wanted to go to America to work, I remember having to wait for months for games to come out on the NES/SMS, yet I would read American games magazines and they where out there....same with movies, we could wait 6-12months for new movies......
Things still havent changed much, music releases are mostly on par globally, games and movie releases arent (BladeII is coming out in June I think, maybe July....) and I think this is a large source of this piracy (I already saw a dodgy screener of BladeII)....the reason being not for gain or to subvert the system, mearly because of the fact that we have to wait so long to see/play anything over here.
Which I actually find pretty amusing. I could imagine that alot of this perceived problem is actually caused by us outside of america, so when in america, we see a bill being passed like this, its kinda amusing....its not right, but its still funny.....its almost like in america, they believe the internet is theirs, they own it, they can regulate it....trully arrogant and bound to fail.
but I appear to have gotten myself sidetracked....as a kid, i wanted to live in america, but after recent events, the government openly telling people "dont question us", the feds with almost absolute power to get any info on anyone without reason, the tracking of H1B visas and now, chips in ADs....I am sure that if they are putting in cpus in them, i'm sure tracking functionality cant be far away, i mean, i could imagine they would mainly target techie gear, soundcards/vidcapture cards.....i think i will stay away from america now, far far away.
Looks to me like americans are also carrying a big stick, has been carrying the big stick for a long time and will continue to beat countries with its big stick if they dont toe the US made line....I mean, as I have read here as well, if you are punched, you should punch back, but the funny thing is, its that the americans think that the WTC attack was a "first punch"....i think it was a punch back...maybe they are as well using your rationalisation.
Facts are what stop situations like this. You "should" care where this came from, it will stop further errors of judgement in the future.
The funny thing is that the current problem is the USA.
Oh and I find it amusing that war is strength and diplomacy is weak...we all know how "tough" it is to bomb something from a couple of thousand k's away.
Then why hasnt america changed its ways as well? Whats more foolish, failing a 1st time, or not learning from another mistakes....
like i heard somewhere...if america spent 1% in what they are going to spend on a pathetic "macho" excuse for a war on something like...schools, hospitals etc, it might actually earn the peoples respect, instead, you will breed more children who will grow up hating you, wanting to kill every last one of you.
Reminds me of what I also read in the paper, talking to some guy in pakistan
"Americans love Pepsi Cola, we love death"
they care more. I am so grateful I am not american.
Ok, lets start with the fact that the backwards american foriegn policy got you attacked in the first place. If you treat countries like errant children, they will act like children back. This is a self created problem. I know that people will say "but we helped people in kuwait"...Bollocks...you saved your precious oil (which if you where smart you would source it from russia, help rebuild their economy as well)...which is again the problem...these people see through your purposed "reasons" to "save" them...lets just not talk about the relentless bombing in iraq or the fact that when saddam was having fun gassing the kurds, america didnt care....lets face it, its the almighty $ that drives america and it dont give a F$#k about anything else....cept now that they have been made to look like fools on the world stage...
now they will just look more foolish. fighting a war that will cost them many many lives against soldiers with years of training and combat experience (we shouldnt mention how the taliban was created by the US/Pakistan/Saudi Arabia, or how the US trained them, supplied them weaponry so that they could push the USSR out of afghanistan....nah, that would be bringing facts to the table...no one likes that in politics...or even funnier, russia will be helping, which means supporting the Northern Aliance, the very people they were fighting against as well....too funny)
