  1. I wouldn't call this censorship on ClearChannel Plays It Safe · · Score: 1

I wouldn't call this censorship. I would call it political agenda. After all 99 luftballoons is a song that is anti-warmongering world leaders. Not that I know of anyone who fits that description. Wonder if he has some cronies at clear channel.

-War what is it good for? Makin' lots of money.

  2. Yeah yeah... on World's Worst Dog'n'Pony Shows · · Score: 1

The big flaw in the argument about the Nuclear Missle test being rigged is that it doesn't matter. It was the third test. This is like cheering because while Los Angeles and New York are toast, we managed to save Houston! Let's be honest. They don't have a missile defense system. Until they prove otherwise they have a missle system that accidentally hit another missle during a test.

  3. Ahh but this flies in the face of advertising... on Really Targeted Advertising · · Score: 1

Isn't advertising basically about trying to influence the leaders who eventually will influence their followers? It is mentioned that most men would never want to see an ad for tampons, or Midol. But would that really happen? Women don't want to see those commercials either. When was the last time you watched one with a woman and she said, "Hey that tampon seems so much better than my current one, I need to go buy it."

So you have to analyze that a lot of what drives commericials is human interaction. Is it more effective to target feminine hygine products to women, or target the commericals to men, so that the next time his significant other has cramps, he recommends that perhaps she use Midol? Think about it. This has the potential to show you more of the commercials you don't like, because you are likely to influence others buying habits.

"The only safe computer is locked in a room and unplugged." Period. Who cares if it's connected to the Internet? There was hacking before the Internet, let's remember.

  5. Let's be honest... on Digital TV Approaches · · Score: 1

As is happening with the music industry, within a couple years, these big companies won't have any content anyone wants anyway...

  6. Theater's been doing this for ages... on Surround Lights · · Score: 2

I think that perhaps you (and this company) are underestimating just how hard it is to make lights look like much of anything. Theater technicians spend years perfecting this, and they still only generally manage to convey moods. The one thing that theater can generally do is convey fire. I do agree, though, that if done properly this could significantly change media. Think about watching a theatrical production. You're not really aware of the lighting changes, because you're watching the actors. As long as the actors stay well lit you're just being subtly manipulated just like sound effects. It's a great idea, but it's still basically a parlor trick. And like most parlor tricks it depends on things like having your couch in the right place, etc. What looks like an explosion when a light is shining directly into your eyes, might look like a candle when viewed from the side.

  7. This bill would affect no computers... on Report On The Texas Censorware Bill · · Score: 1

Well it would affect a few, but not many. Every single Microsoft Operating System comes with Internet Explorer bundled in. The DOJ has established that.
Every version of Internet Explorer comes with a tool called the "content advisor". You can turn this filter on, by clicking one, yes count it one button. You choose what you want to see on the Internet and what sites are appropriate. Sure it blocks everything that isn't rated, but obviously this senator doesn't mind over-blocking. Unix and it's variants are extremely good at blocking sites, so I guess the question remaining is whether or not Mac's come bundled with IE.
Bringing up another question. If he's using AOL. And we all know that AOL has blocking built in, and AOL is based on IE, and IE has blocking built in. How simple exactly does he want it?

This is a ridiculously offensive comment. This is like saying that alchoholism is just a ploy to make money for AA. While I agree that psychologists have talken helping people and created a multi-billion dollar business of sedating the public, that doesn't mean the problems don't exist. Before ADD there were hyperactive children. There still are hyperactive children. The only difference is that there are doctors who are willing to prescribe Ritilin the moment your child misbehaves. Your using poor logic. Bad Doctor + Misdiagnosing Medicine != Disease Does Not Exist This is much in the same vein as having a doctor amputate the wrong leg. Would you say in that because there was nothing wrong with the leg that was amputated that amuptation is never necessary? Oh, and please don't get me started on how insensitive your remarks are. You need three sisters to slap you around for that comment.
