It seems like this is a module that sony could put together for nothing, that would really help to sell the device. I'm not too familiar with the hardware, but if it has a modem they could claim it is an internet-ready computer, dvd player, and game system.
They must have paid a shitload to keep him quiet... you know he has to have some dirt on Dumbya from his coked up college days. Maybe the CIA threatened to shoot him again.
You have to respect someone who is still fighting the good fight. I've yet to go to a linux company where they were not running some proprietary solution or even windows. Time to get some dim sum and do a little thinking about what it would take to make people understand what rms is saying...
to diss open source... then just the GPL.. then they release Gatesnix, a a BSD-based *nix which runs both Linux and MS apps, which is free (as in beer.... none of that commie GPL crap).
And heck.... multi-million dollar loby with rich crooks in office and the next thing you know Free Software is illegal
I'm only half-kidding. I hope rms writes a fantastic response, and someone else talks to legislators.
The same arguments were made when FM was new. "Who is gong to buy music when you can hear & record it for free?" Well, it turns out that people still buy music. Most people I know find music they like on Napster or Gnapster and then go buy the CD.
This is just silly that Napster would have to pay for a networking product. What if they just advertised it as file sharing, and not specific to music?
The economy is hurting everybody.
I've been through 3 rounds of layoffs and the Linux company I work for. It is tough on the soul, even if you make the cut.
Any government that passes laws like this will use them to silence opposition. I run an anti-gov site that is a discussion board, and.au would be able to block it because of it's content. It is an open discussion, so people can link to what they like in comments. Sometimes people link to adult content... we can't controll that, but it would get us banned. Especially since we are critical of the government anyway.
With this administration, and the FUD of microsoft, expect more of this and attacks on free software. Information Wants to be Free. Dumbya and those in power here could be arresting napster users soon.
Nice to see Dave Wresky on Slashdot. He is one of the good guys, and you should use his company Guardian Digital if you need consulting. He is smart, nice and a technical whiz. I've heard Paul "Rusty" Russel give him a solid thumbs up... Security doesn't get better than having the guy who wrote all the firewall code give you an endorsement!

Seems like this is one of the best moves Apple has done in awhile. It will be good for both Apple and the BSD folks... although there may be some culture clash.
It seems like this is a perfect application for Jabber as a streaming XML router in near real-time. Build an XML DTD to containg the data an you already have an infrastructure for online communication and presence which is extensible and can contain any type of data... a dynamic flexible protocol for easily streaming information between clients.
They are the only big company that totally gets it. They have a deep commitment to Linux. On another note, they had enough guts to admit their ties to Nazi Germany. Do you think Bush will?
an Ipaq with terabytes of data! With a good da converter and some mikes I could record concerts directly without a DAT tape and make them available as soon as I was in my wireless network again... all from a pda. I knew this would happen =)
Every little story I see like this gives me some confidence that technology is putting power back in the hands of individuals, and taking power away from coorporations.
Legislation is pointless. Zero Knowledge Systems, anonymous, etc, will be impossible to stop. Just get a shell account in the Netherlands for a few bucks and be anonymous from there. The fact that the net has no borders will offer some protection from a clueless/fascist government.
Both serve their purpose, but there is no real way to blend them. After years on Macs, and now years on Unix/Linux, I see no real way to blend the two. GUIs are a good representation, but there is no way to do something like
history|grep sgmltools|grep html
To find a command you used to format a document 10 days ago. Both Gnome and KDE are fantastic GUIs, but I always have (and will have) a shell open.
You ignorant f%#king Nazi.
Germany would have won the war, except for the fact that after they drove out/killed all their Jewish scientists they just wern't smart enough to pull it off, dumbass.
this is sadly a good perception of Republicans
You can bet that this supreme court will side with corporate profits every time... with maybe 2 or 3 dissents.
do the same thing with phone?

He's not easy to get along with, but he's right.

Where does that fall in relation to the first series?

The only people I know using it are geeks. Is it doing OK? I used to be a big mac guy before Linux.
Screenshots are still not coming up. I think the slashdot effect may have actually damaged the site ;)
LetsRiot! stickers. It would be nice to know they are in space, as well as in bathrooms accross the nation =)

Specifically the 1930s, and the rise of Fascism in Europe... Very much like the current Republican party...
