When I said "X-Box" I actually meant it. Instead of a GeForce3, I'll just get the X-Box in June and get pretty much the same experience. $600 for a videocard is ridiculous unless you are actually doing high-end renders.
If you're going to buy the card just to run a game, well, I hope you have a lot of disposable income. Price Tag is $600. It'll probably hit the channel for about $500-550, but that's still cost prohibitive for most of us.
Still, that card's feature-set is certainly a force to be reckoned with. I'll stick with the X-Box for now.
I personally find it gratifying that when I buy a pair of Nike's, some kid in another country can afford to feed his family. And I think that it's pretty cool that some kid in another country will now be building my shoes, and seeing MY name on them, and maybe... just maybe, wonder what I'm like.
Come on. These kids are not abused or mistreated. They're given jobs at a decent wage for where they live, and they are not forced to work beyond their will. Cut Nike some slack... they are actually doing GOOD.
First... Nike never would have processed the order. It says right on the site that they reserve the right to reject ID's.
Second... The ID can be no longer than EIGHT letters. Sweatshop is NINE, and would never make it through the system.
On a personal note, I think the Idea of custom building my shoes is AWESOME, especially with my nickname on them. Finally, I'm not stuck with the fuckin' ugly colors most Nike's come in these days (I've been wearing Sketchers for that reason). You know the ones... the shoes that make you look like you're from the future.
However, Nike makes the best shoes I've ever worn, and now that I can get around the color issue, I'll go back to wearing them.
Yes... by going to a public (or even a private school) you are giving up your right to privacy. People might argue the point with me, but that's how I view it.
Never assume you have privacy, especially when you KNOW you aren't in complete control over that privacy. If there's more than one key to your house/dormroom, assume that key can be used.
You have no reasonable expectation of Privacy when using a PUBLIC service of any sort. If you are concerned with Privacy, do it from home with your own equipment. If you are, for all intents and purposes, in a place other than your personal residence (Dorm rooms are NOT your personal residence), then you should NOT expect to be unmonitored.
Chalk this up to one of those "Well, DUH" kind of things. I don't even understand why this is attracting attention. Lack of Privacy in your home I can understand. Spyware on your personal machine I can understand. But privacy issues in SCHOOLS? Come on...
Folks, Chapter 11 (protection from creditors) is only a step towards bankruptcy. It allows the floundering company to gain some breathing room while they reorganize their finances and find a way to pay the bills.
The reason why Covad has the policy of not changing your ISP while they are under Chapter 11 is because they LEGALLY CAN'T.
Chapter 11 allows the ISP to keep operating while not paying their bills (although bills still accrue) that are required for the company to operate (power, water, rent, and in this case, Covad's services). Covad cannot turn them off yet, and cannot bump you to another ISP until the Chapter 11 protection runs out.
Covad however IS turning off all of the ISPs that aren't paying, BEFORE they file Chap. 11. The fact that Covad is telling you means that they are looking out for their customer's customers, and that is VERY cool. Cut them some slack... they just want to get paid. If you need someone to blame, blame the ISP for not managing their business properly.
If you want to know how I know all of this (and, BTW, IANAL)... my ISP just files Chap 11 about a month ago.
If you actually read the article that was linked to, they specifically mention NOT adding that scene. Nothing is being added to the movie that shouldn't have been there to begin with.
You forgot the hardcore sex scene where Data becomes "a real man" with Tasha Yar. They shot it, but it ended up on the cutting room floor. No reason that couldn't be included on the DVD.
Now that's a special edition I'd PAY to see.
"Intriguing, Lieutenant. So this is how humans "make love."
As a 25-year-old with no college education pulling down 62K/yr., I can tell you that age certainly DOES matter. I've been in the industry for 7 years, and am just NOW going to (community) college. Age counts for a LOT. I've been passed up for management positions, promotions, and raises all due to lack of experience. Never mind that I was clearly a better technician than my peers, as was evidenced by the "stats" they judged us on.
It's a sad fact that Age=Experience in a lot of people's eyes. All I can say to try to help is keep studying/going to school, and work HARD. Eventually, you'll become old enough where they'll start to see your skills and not your DOB.
Please, don't use this as an excuse to slack off though. That just gives others iny your age bracket a bad name as well. Just work hard, harder than the rest if you must, and eventually, you'll be respected.
I should note that I've NEVER had a problem getting interviews or jobs. But once I'm IN a job, and my age comes out, it is hard to advance. Most of my pay increases have come from changing jobs until the last year or two.
Actually, what happened is that the defensive player totally missed the QB. He got a hand on him, but in the replay, it looks like no more than coincidental contact. That same reply shows the QB recoiling from the defensive player, and sitting down. Fact is, he could have a made a play, and chose to "sit this one out."
The QB was pulled from the game just a couple of plays later. Of course, they were losing 19-0 at the time... so the two may not be related. But I bet they are.
He doesn't have a lack of alternatives BECAUSE of Microsoft. There's simply not enough money in it to do the work. Microsoft knows that their software works best when everyone can exchange data across a common platform (especially theirs), so it was in their best intrest to locallize the code.
This has nothing to do with monopoly. It's simply market economics. You write code for the markets with the most money. It's not a matter of convincing others that it's worth the time and effort to locallize.
Still, this doesn't do anything to solve this particular person's problem at this time.
Alternatives "pouring in" do him no good NOW. He's dead in the water RIGHT NOW. Nothing will happen in the next few days that will help him communicate NOW.
Unless he installs Windows. It's all he can do NOW to rectify his CURRENT situation.
You know, it seems like there are a lot of reasons you OUGHT to be using Windows. So why aren't you?
If you're doing it just out of spite, you probably are going to need to buck up and deal with it. If you can't communicate with the rest of the country/world, then you're oinly doing yourself a disservice.
In this case, it isn't about Microsoft being a monopoly. It's about Microsoft having added value for YOUR country, and having addressed a market that no one else cares about. That said, you might as well make the jump. You're getting nowhere by denying yourself the ability to communicate electronically with the rest of your country.
PS: I know this will get mod'ed down as it's Pro-Microsoft, but before you pull the trigger, re-read the post. He has NO alternatives.
I'm STILL not impressed.

As for getting it myself, I'm talking about a non-tunneled version of it. Until an ISP hands me an IPv6 addy, I'm not interested. There's no REASON for me to "do it myself" yet.

I'm not impressed. Give my IPv6 FIRST, then get me the games that can support it. Don't be putting the cart before the horse people. Until the ISP's are supporting IPv6, no one is going to care about this stuff. It's a fun project sure, but it's not even being used on an up-to-date game!
A big complaint the media is making is that when the coach or QB calls a play, they use "code". For example, "24 slant right on 1." They are complaining becaus ethe announcing team is not telling the viewers what this means.
Well, DUH! If they knew what it meant, it wouldn't be a secret play now, would it. Hell, all the defensive coordinators would have to do is carry a Sony Watchman onto the field with them and intercept the plays, then radio them to the defense! We're not SUPPOSED to know what these plays are. But hearing them anyway is kind of cool.
The media can be so clueless and blind sometimes...
On that note, I should mention that the part I liked best is that the Announcers for NFL games try to over-analyze the game, and take the fun out of it. In the XFL, it's like two ordinary guys with Headsets of Charisma +2 enjoying the game and calling it like they see it.
It wasn't about the Cheerleaders, and anyone who bought into that hype was played for a mark. The cheerleaders actually got very little airtime. It was all about the football, or at least, the XFL brand of football. If you watched the game expecting scantily clad cheerleaders, you were probably disappointed.
Hell, forget watching the game... you probably didn't even READ my post, did you?
6. Key players will have a scoreboard video intro scored with a rock song as they enter onto the field. Prior to the snap, players may use a wireless microphone for talking trash about the other team over the stadium loudspeakers.
Did you watch the game on NBC. This actually happened. Home team got to announce themselves, each team got their own "theme song," and players mikes were indeed piped over the loudspeakers.
The X is not for Extreme, as has been explained by McMahon and the league on several occasions. The X doesn't represent anything, the PRESS are the ones to label the league "Extreme" even though they had yet to see a game or the production.
Most people are pissed off about the XFL for two reasons. First, they are pissed because of the lewdness and debauchery (mostly on the part of the cheerleaders) that the XFL represents. Frankly, I didn't think the cheerleaders outfits were that much more revealing than most cheerleader attire, or even most swimsuits. But the XFL sold that "image" and got the press and attention they wanted. Anyone still complaining about it is probably against cheerleaders of all forms, or didn't watch the game.
The other big argument against the XFL was that it wasn't "real" football. Anyone who WATCHED a game this weekend should have seen that it was indeed "real" football. Every possible outcome was represented this weekend: The blowout (Las Vegas v. NY/NJ), the high-scoring offensive battle (Orlando v. Chicago), and the last minute decision (LA v. San Francisco). No, they aren't NFL players, and it's not NFL quality, but to me, it's exactly what I want to watch: a bunch of ordinary guys having fun and getting paid for it. Not a bunch of millionaires and stuck-up announcers. The XFL is EXACTLY what it was supposed to be... more football after the NFL season is over.
Lambast Ventura all you want, but I have to give him credit for knowing when to all a spade a spade. (Same goes for Jim Ross.) When the Hitmen's QB sat down rather than get sacked (and the defensive guy only touched him), Ventura was quick to tell him that you aren't going to play much if you come to the game with that mentality. Quarterbacks aren't protected, and if your offensive line isn't doing their job, you're going to get hit. A lot.
I enjoyed what I saw this weekend, and not just because I'm a wrestling fan. I liked it because it was different, it was energetic, and it was genuinely fun to watch. And I'll be damned if this "spectacle" isn't turning me into a football fan.
Most interestingly, they had a guy playing for, I think it was the Outlaws, who was in the ZFL because he was released from the NFL because he was making too much money. He offered to play for less, and they wouldn't let him, because of the salary caps and mimimums. So now he's in the XFL, because he loves to play. And that was the whole point.

It looks like Nike altered the site after the fact to only allow eight letters. It used to be 12, apaprently?

If you are living in a home that no one but your family has access to, you have a reasonable expectation of privacy. That's different.
Think about this ... when you live at a college, think of all of the people who have access to your dorm, mail, etc. The number is staggering.
Never assume you have privacy, especially when you KNOW you aren't in complete control over that privacy. If there's more than one key to your house/dormroom, assume that key can be used.

I do beleive that IPv6 will be supported in Whistler. Maybe after that, we'll begin to see some movement.
