Here, I'll spell it out for you:

Because most of us think installing a base, bare system is where you start, and then you just add packages by hand with apt as you want/need them.

First of all, this isn't what I was referring to, but here's a question for you: how is your way better than Slackware, which gives you a choice?

When I'm setting up a system, I alread know what I want/need. If something pops up afterwards (new functionality), I can just add it in.

Forcing me to do it in two steps, instead of allowing me to choose, and then claiming (as you seem to be) that this "is the best way", is just assinine.

    BINGO!

Why is it that whenever you say you hate the Debian installer, Debheads always assume it's just because you're not accustomed to text interfaces?

I, too, am a Slack user (in the past I've used Mandrake and Caldera for my desktop, but switched once Slack hit 7.1), and I've tried Debian once - with pretty much the same results as you.. I find the installer completely non-intuitive, almost like it was made difficult on purpose.

Why can't the Debian people make an installer that's easy?

By default, the phones run their own protocol (not IP - possibly IPX, but I've never put a sniffer on the line to find out), but there is a mode to have them use h.323, so you can have remote extensions running over the internet.

"Free Speech" is about your right to express your opinions, not the right to harrass people.

If you walked down the street with a bullhorn at 3AM, shouting "BUY MY HERBAL VIAGRA", you'd be fined by your town for disturbing the peace.

And there is no way in hell you could argue that the law used to arrest you violated your First Amendment rights.

Spam is no different. Spammers are forcing the recipient to pay for their spam, whether the victim wants it or not.

with spam, you either have a bad recipient address (in which case, there isn't anyone to complain), or there was a victim, who recieved the spam.

Perhaps a better (though not perfect - see below) analogy is "well, we had better stop mugging people, and giving them our addresses afterwards"

If the expected conviction rate of all spammers is say oh... 1 of 100 (ridiculuously conservative) then some Joe looking to get into the spam business is looking at this kinda math:

In order for there to be a conviction there has to be a criminal trial.

This is not criminal law, this is civil law - which means that the victim sues the spammer. Once people know they can get $2000 plus court costs per spam, the 'cost of doing business' gets VERY high, VERY quickly.

how can the movie industry be declining if attendance is up and they are breaking sales records?

    Simple..

Paramount Pictures Inc. (a wholly owned subsidiary of Paramount Studios Inc.) makes a movie, which comes in exactly on budget at $40M

Paramount Pictures Inc. then wants people to see it, so they get their marketing company, Paramount Marketing Inc. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Paramount Studios Inc.) to do the marketing.

Paramount Marketing Inc. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Paramount Studios Inc.) charges Paramount Pictures Inc. the tidy sum of $300M to market the movie.

The movie is a blockbuster, and nets (not grosses) $90M for Paramount Pictures Inc. (a wholly owned subsidiary of Paramount Studios Inc.) in it's first weekend.. but after that it only nets an average of $20M per week, and it stays in theatres for two months.

So, after it's theater run, the movie has earned a total of $250M, but Paramount Pictures Inc. (a wholly owned subsidiary of Paramount Studios Inc.) is in the hole by $150M.

So the only thing that can save Paramount Pictures Inc. (a wholly owned subsidiary of Paramount Studios Inc.) is a large infusion of cash from their parent company, Paramount Studios Inc.

Anyone who knows anything about money will tell you that the parent company can't continute to pump money into a money-losing venture indefinitely... if they keep having to do it, they'll have to shut Paramount Picutures Inc. (a wholly owned subsidiary of Paramount Studios Inc.) down!
