Basically he's saying that Kleenex had 100% of the Kleenex market. "PC" was a brand name when IBM invented it, thus all PCs were IBMs. IBM didn't have 100% of the microcomputer market, but they had durn near close to 100% of the corporate microcomputer market. However (being even more pedantic), it's important to note that IBM lost that market intentionally. Unlike MS, when they got dinged for being anti-competitive they actually did something about it.
For everyone saying they have no choice, I wonder if you've actually tried. My company offers to pay your cell phone bill if you'll be available during off hours. One day the CFO/CIO said "by the way, I notice we don't pay for your phone" and I said "no, I don't want calls at home." He said he respected my decision and that I was the only one on his staff to have made it. The cell phone costs me $40 a month. That's what they're getting paid to take calls at home. Whatever, their choice.
Try just not looking or not answering. Return the call during working hours. If they ask didn't you get my message, say no, I don't check messages off hours. Wait until they threaten to fire you.
Set up a server with roaming profiles. Set up a desktop exactly the way you want it to be. Use Ghost to save that image and copy it to other desktops.
If someone screws up their own user experience, blow away their profile. If someone screws up a desktop, blow away the desktop and re-Ghost. All problems are fixed in 15 minutes or less; no-one's bookmarks are lost (unless deserved); and you don't have to lock down anything.
You'll never out-idiot them. Just plan for a quick exit from their idiocy.
