Unfortunately, it's not "just like a hard drive," no matter what creative or their fanboys say. I have a NJB3 and creative wants you to use their crappy proprietary PlayCenter app and a special file manager program to load files to and from the device. You can get the Notmad program people above talked about (thats what I did) which makes it a lot more tolerable because at least its integrated into explorer, but you still won't be able to access your zen as a Z: drive.

You can't copyright public property. There was a SCOTUS case about this several years ago, because the company that publishes annotated and cross-referenced versions of the US Code sued another company that took the text of the law and did other things with it. They can sell it, but their copyright only holds on their particular arrangement of data (that is, if they cross-referenced stuff, made notes, etc. that stuff is copyrighted, as well as its position within the text.), so you could strip out their comments and resell it if you like.

  7. [ot] RAID-0 reconstruction? on Affordable Home Backups for 10-100G Systems? · · Score: 1

This is slightly OT but since there are so many people posting about RAID right now i might as well throw it out:

I have a scsi 34GB raid 0 array on a DPT i2o card that im borrowing from a friend, and I recently tried to add an IDE drive to my system to wean myself off of the raid array, since i have to give it back. But when I installed the IDE drive, the raid array became unchained or something! i know i know "shoulda used raid-1" but i didn't really have a choice at the time, I needed it for DV editing and couldnt' live with just 17 gigs (*sigh* oh for the days when a 40MB hard drive was huge)

So basically what I'm looking for is an affirmative answer to one of the following questions:

Can I ghost the split drives, and just create a new chain in the card's bios? will the new chain erase all the data on the hd's or if i make sure the config is the same will my data magically appear?

OR, is there a way to take the ghosted images, splice them together somehow and make a new 34GB partition on my new (80gb) ide drive?

At my family's home in metrowest boston, they have both verizon dsl and att roadrunner. They both suck, but for different reasons. The cable modem is VERY lagged, although we can get up to 150KB/sec when downloading. I don't know whats causing that problem, but its a pain trying to frag/read slashdot/connect to AIM. Verizon is pretty good, but we very rarely get the advertised 640k/128k speeds. connections are quick, however. Plus the PPPoE software sucks.
