I currently use Courier-IMAP on my mailserver and offlineimap to synchronize my linux desktop machine with the imap server. I then use a version of pine I patched to work with Maildir instead of Mbox, and also have squirrelmail running on the mailserver for web based access. On my Windows machine, I use Outlook with IMAP and everything stays magically in sync. With offlineimap, I sync my inbox, sent-mail, and a few other commonly used folders every 5 minutes and the rest of them every hour. It works well.
What a timely post! Today I got back from a week long contract job and went to deposit some checks at the bank. Well, the local Wells Fargo closes at 4pm and I just missed it by about 10 minutes, so I went to deposit in the ATM. I inserted my card as instructed and voila, a nice windows fatal error message requiring me to click OK, but of course no mouse to click the button with and the Green enter button does nothing. In fact, none of the buttons did anything. Eventually, the ATM rebooted itself and came up with a nice "This ATM is out of service." message, and of course kept my card. So, I called Wells Fargo customer service to find out how long it would take to replace my business ATM card and it's 7-10 business days!!! Ouch! Why exactly am I paying for a business account when I get the same service as for my personal checking account? I don't know. *sigh*
The only problem I had with turbotax for the web is that it would not allow me to import my.tax files from my regular turbotax product I'd been using. I was going to use turbotax for the web this year since the turbotax wouldn't run inside my vmware this year due to the DRM. But, since I found out I could import my old turbotax data with taxcut, I promptly switched.
Woohoo! Ok, so it isn't that glorious, but I've been trying to get my broken collar bone to heal for about 4 months now and opted to go in and get it plated. So last Friday before the holiday I went under the knife since I've got 2 weeks to heal during the Christmas break. Fortunately, I didn't get any christmas presents today that required both hands to operate.
So where are our open source alternatives to the proxy? Maybe the gaim and squid guys should get together? The only compelling feature I see is the direct-IM for internal users (i.e. not using up your internet bandwidth). The encryption might be nice, but you can already do that with gaim plugins. Everything else just seems like spyware, but maybe some companies need/want that?
We'd love to see some benchmarks run on this equipment. It's a great chance for us to evaluate and boost postgresql performance in general. Can you contact us directly? You can find a subscription link here: http://archives.postgresql.org/pgsql-performance/ as well as the thread regarding your ask slashdot question here: http://archives.postgresql.org/pgsql-performance/2 005-11/msg00514.php
