I would then blame the brain dead fool who run NT, 2000, ect. they want to run the OS for some reason. They should then deal with the mess they wanted.
The clueless people must read the news paper, watch cnn, read online news, listen to the radio. I can excuse ingorance once. After that people have to own up to their mistakes... like not installing the patch after the first out break. Like no listing when the govt and ms heald a press confrence to pleade with people to apply the patch.
So why is free and open source the best? Oh I know so everyone can see the code and make fixes wen the time exist? Sorry I don't buy it.
Software should do what it is ment to do. If it cost money fine. If it is free fine. If it is open soucre fine. Some people run off downloading the latest free open source program and expect the mona lissa. Some open source projects are woth while (apache, gcc, mozilla). Others are just pile of crap. People do forget that some open source programs are crap.. they have their mouth to close Tux's anus... I take it your in that boat.
But since when does stupidy on sys admins part count as a MS mess? Im sorry but all software has bugs. MS posted a fix for the exploit and few sys admins used the patch. Then came Code Red, now Code Red II and III. (BTW I am not a MS user at all) The 'Mess' came from the lazy sys admins.
Now I have a question. All your running a server and have logs of attempted infections why not do the community some good, socker here your actuallg going have to do someting helpful... unheard of for linux users, take out your logs and and track down the sys admin for the servers who tried to infect you. Then let the sys admin know they have code red. Maybe the sys admins think they don't have the problem, or maybe if they get enough email they will take action.
You buy a PS2 not for Linux (which is crap in my mind.. but I am off the point).
A PS2 is ment for gamming. Not for running an appache server. Not for hacking the FBI. Not for spreading Code Red. Not for running vi. A PS2 is ment for playing GAMES! Not if you can play with Linux.
I am so sick of geek want-a-be's buying stuff so they can play with linux... or not buying stuff cause they can't run linux.
Take out your bike and ride to the Library check out a book and get a LIFE.
No is it "cool" that the ps2 can run linux sure I suppose... but if that gives you 'wood' then your a sad person.
(Okay now you gay moderators time to mod me down since my view isn't pro linux and im not getting 'wood' over this sad story.)
Hmmm... not sure what your smoking bud.
I have a Mac yes so my pov may be slanted. However I love my mac hardware. Not only for the looks but how it preforms.
Most people attack the software but this is a new one... I personally would say icky pc hardware.
Enjoy.
[However I just purcahsed a nice G4 and I did have a few problems. Just think I can't boot in millions of colors at 1024x768 with a GeForce 2 MX while my old video card (2 megs vram made in '97) could... same monitor too]

It's not his speech it was his actions...
I could stand on a soap box reading the source code to WinXP while shooting a shot gun at people and some/.er would think I was being arrest for my speech and not my actions.
(ok moderator now mark me down since you disagree with what I think)
For the dely I think I would like to thank my fellow mac os x users. Many users where upset that apple released small updates when someting was fixed... like security improved battery life. This is great news for many users.
The bad part comes when a few users got upset that their precious uptime is effected, no dvd playback, no data burning and my all time fav no iSub support.
I personally would like to see small updates that are targeted. Now i have to wait till "6" for improved speed and other bug fixes.
So to my fellow OS X users pat yourself on the back for the delay in many of the improvments you want in OS X.
(on flat panel and apple pda front i think the media was looking for news that never had a chance to see the day of light.... the only thing that was annouced that was expected was an update to Mac OS 9)
He said a friend a few years ago tried... umm google was around back then? The problem that exist in searching for help via the search sites is that your not going to get exactly what you want. Some things are different for disto to distro. If you are new what should a person seach for "mouse setting X linux" hmm yes i can see it now.
Groups, boards, chat rooms exist to help people exchange ideas. When people act like pompus a-holes one gets a negative view of the group as a whole the net effect is the outside support for you action takes a nose dive.
If you are pro abortion and walk into a church degrading, moking or bashing the groups ideas they would want to tar and feather you. However if you go in and talk about your pov point by point your more likly to receive a warmer welcome. Next some one pops in an IRC room and say hey I don;t understand this man page thing or can i configure my sytem don;t type RTFM or say visit google.com give them some help be a mentor... give them a kick in the pants to help them out.
Ok sure I know why OpenOffice is getting play on slashdot... but this same story appeared on may Mac related sites a day ago.
It seems to me 'We' Mac OS X users see the WP world as two camps Office and AppleWorks. Well I would like to point out a great app from Nisus. Nisus Writer was one of the first WP for the Mac and it is insanly great. Right now they are in the process of porting the sucker over to OS X.
Sure OpenOffice is an open source project and is free (and more dev. working on a mac port is fine), but most home users use a WP more than Excel or PowerPoint. I don't think OpenOffice is something that will have little effect in slowing MS domiance under OS X.
Two last things.
1.) Why not just get a java version of OpenOffice so less porting is needed?
2.) Mozilla now has nightly OS X build Yea:) !!!
Not true... your taking the classical any company is bad. I have comcast @home (in michigan) and I must say the service is fair. I never needed any tech support. My modem was installed with in a week of placing placing an order nearly two years ago. In the last 4 mos I can only thing of one outage that prohibited me getting online from about 11pm to 3pm the next day (sat - sun).
I also have digital cable and that just sucks. I despise the entire cable box interface... just as bad as KDE or GNOME (please no flames or holy wars I just am not a KDE or GNOME fan).
If Comcast is able to pull this off I hope the improve their backbone big time... and I also hope they can force @home to improce email preformance (thank god we don't have to use Excite Mail).
I would then blame the brain dead fool who run NT, 2000, ect. they want to run the OS for some reason. They should then deal with the mess they wanted.

gay has other meanings such as: Given to social pleasures.
So yes moderators can be gay... in a non sexual way. Get into the 21 century man. Everything isn't about sex.

One can also play Ogg Vorbis with a few OS9.1 mp3 players and a few MP3 players on OS X.
Just another Linux centric view slashdot holds (which is fine... but I an not a *Linux fan)
