  1. It was a good concept on Trouble at Stargate SG-1 · · Score: 1

I thought the whole Stargate concept was a pretty good one. I've seen most of the series by now, and I've enjoyed all but a very few. I only rarely ever equated elements of the show with the X-Files, Star Trek, or anything else. I'm a pretty big sci-fi fan and it's something I'd probably notice if it weren't done with taste. Sometimes it's easy to over analyze a good thing, and only end up loosing sight of the original purpose. The show has a unique and enjoyable set of characters that have shown growth since the beginning. It's too bad that a basically good show falls apart when writers and producers try to manipulate ratings by stepping out of bounds from the comfortable equation that kept the loyal viewers coming back for more of the same.

  2. Re:Homesite for me on PHP Development Environments? · · Score: 1

I've been using Homesite since version 3.0 (about 5 years). Getting to were it is today has been rough. It's been a memory hog and riddled with annoying little bugs. The latest version is pretty well refined. I like the built-in FTP file access. This a must-have if you're working on several servers all at one time. The editor is very good at colorizing PHP and SQL. It has lots of nifty features and tools for editing, formating, and storing snippets. It doesn't like big files.

  3. Our experience with college interns on Perception of Linux Among IT Undergrads · · Score: 1

We recently participated in a program with PSU to hire IT students as interns. To make a long rant short, we found most of them inexperienced. I got the impression most of them were relying on the school to endow them with all the experience and knowledge they will need in the IT field. This just isn't going to happen. Particularly at a large school like PSU. However, we did meet a couple students that obviously experiment with alternative OS's and languages on their own. So, we hired them. A small company like ours doesn't have the time to remind interns what an SQL statement is, or to show them something other than "select * from .... " The schools should be able to teach at least enough so that their IT students that they can sound like they know a thing or two.

Do you realize that on the first day of rifle deer season in Pennsylvania, where I live, something like the forth largest standing army in the world walks into the woods to shoot deer? There are nearly as many firarms in this country as there are people. More than a third of our population owns them. And, do you really think that the majority of the US armed services would actually fire upon there own families? There is a very good reason for the second amendment. The NRA and GOA helping politicians who realize this to stifle anti-gun laws on almost a weekly basis. Yes, we may continue to lose some of our gun rights, but there is a threshhold. For those of us who may not rise up in anarchy, we would certainly hide our guns like Junis did with his computer.

Christians seems to forget that of all the religions on this planet, they're a small minority. I believe it can reasonably be gathered that the bible is mostly a book of fables by which lessons are taught, and the stories should not be taken so literally. After all, the bible has been changed, translated, and manipulated by how many kings and religious leaders by now? As we know the bible today, it has been a work-in-progress for hundreds of years. I too think it's a little early for a scientist to come to such a profound conclusion. Let's wait for more of the Big Picture to unravel.
