  1. Orphanware should be left to die on Lessig Proposes "Creative Commons" · · Score: 2, Insightful
I think that software which nobody is interested in should be allowed to die gracefully. I think there is little future generations can learn from the kind of spaghetti code that was commonly produced in the 80s and 90s before OOP became the dominant paradigm.

Why make future generations suffer ?

I've always hated the idea of having lots of DC transformers for every bit of electronics equipment I own. It would be much cooler if I could re use my Cat5 cable as a DC power system. Obviously this would need to be thought about carefully, and I would need to make sure I labelled the outlets carefully.

I realise you adequacy idiots are full of irony, but are you trying to be funny here ? I don't get it.

All I said was that I find it puzzling that overpopulation gets touted as this big problem, yet we spend millions researching how to produce more humans. What possible applications can this have apart from the the obvious military one of creating an enormous clone army ?

It just so happens that I do like it, as most commercial software is well designed and usable by even the most stupid non-tech savvy person. You cannot say that about most Open Source Gnu software.

I've just built an OpenBSD 3.0 system based around one of these. It really is a cool box. It is about 1/3 the size of a conventional PC case.

The gripes I have with it are: No AGP graphics, It uses the S3 Savage chipset with shared video memory (a bad thing). I don't think it supports 512MB DIMMS, and there are only 2 slots for memory. The overclocking options are not what they could be. Apart from that it's great, and pretty damn cheap too. Overclockers.co.uk sell them in the UK, as do Kustom PCs

What I would like to know is where I can get a Neon light and case mod for this thing...

I've heard rumours of a successor motherboard to the fv24 which will have AGP, and a more overclocker-friendly BIOS (but the power supply and cooling will always be an issue with this form-factor. As it is, the SV24 comes with its own heatsink and fan because a conventional sized one will not fit in the case.
