I'm actually working on that app as we speak. I'm using a combination of qmail, mySQL, perl, apache, and debian linux. It is developing into a groupware suite that includes regular groupware stuff (email, messaging, threaded discussions, lists, etc) with lesson plans, student schedules, etc.
As mail comes I intercept it, break out the mime parts and write the whole thing to a mySQL box.
And I agree about the speed. Most of our schools around here that are buying into this are on a regional ATM fiber network that they also use for distance learning. It's fast.
Geez, I think I'd be looking at other issues to see why your NetWare servers were crashing once a week. (NT, ok, maybe once a week I could understand)
I work at a consulting firm that manages large inter-campus networks for several school districts. The standard setup at each campus is a Dell NetWare box for storage/printing and a Linux box doing all the NAT stuff.
These servers hardly ever go down. At least a thousand users a day per box. The majority of them stay up all year with the possible exception of planned maintenance.
If you'd like some consultation to see what the problem with your configuration is, I'll be happy to send you some info!;) To be sure, NetWare is VERY stable.
Is a degree in English really a requirement for participating in discussions here at/.? Some people have better things to do with their time than sending their posts through a grammer checker. Most programmers are known for having horrible grammer skills.
What is it with these perl guys, anyway? Don't they know that elsif should have another e in there somewhere? Bah, they must all be script kiddies.

The ISBN on mine is 0-681-40322-5. It's the leather bound version with the bookmark thingy.
What about CuSeeMe? We've had nothing but problems with this here.
If anyone has a good solution to how muliple users behind the Masq box can view seperate feeds I'd appreciate it.
