    That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard, unless you're using a different definition than the one in my dictionary:

    \Rich\, (r[i^]ch), a. 1. Having an abundance of material possessions; possessed of a large amount of property; well supplied with land, goods, or money; wealthy; opulent; affluent; -- opposed to poor.

    As far as taxes go, you're thowing lots of numbers around, without context. I suspect that your numbers don't include payroll taxe or sales taxes, both of which are regressive.

    Choosing .NET is a bet-the-company decision for many developers.
    Choosing any language/environment is a bet-the-company decision. It's either going to to remain popular and viable, or it won't. There's no guarantee Java will still be widely used in 5 - 10 years, either.

    A friend of mine works at a PB shop that would like nothing better than to switch to .net or java, but is looking at a huge investment to do so.

    Actually, it got worse. We spent hours trying to install 9i, only to have the installer continually die. We finally found the reason - we had the display set to 16 colors, and the installer needs the display to be 256 colors. No error messages are ever displayed.

    There are heacvy repercussions that go with the decission to use deadly force, and most time those who do will be in jail for a night and will have their weapon taken until everything is sorted out.
    Yeah, those are some "heacvy repercussions", alright! A night in jail and temporary seizure of your weapon - I guess he'll think twice next time he executes a robber armed with a knife! Is your state in the habit of death sentences for armed robbery, or is it okay only if the victim happens to be carrying, as well as the criminal?

    Fear of a Black Hat is one of the funniest movies ever. Ice Cold's explanation of the political message of the the song Booty Juice is hilarious:

    Kinda funny that the article seems to start off by blaming "user friendly" software for the shortage. Is it true that no one tinkers anymore?
    Sure, man, I tinker with my mainframe all the time. It's out in the garage. My electric bill runs about $10,000/month.
    There's zero similarity between your Debian box and a mainframe. One doesn't prepare you for the other.

    I use a font called ProFont. It's fixed width, very clear at small sizes, and has great differentiation between l and 1 and 0 and O. Also, the punctuation seems larger and more distinct. It's not the prettiest thing, but it makes coding much easier. You can find it for Win, Mac, Linux, or Atari!?! here.

    It's from a movie called Crazy People. The characters create ads that are completely honest. Things like "Volvo. Boxy, but nice." and "Porsche. It's a little too small to get laid IN it, but you get laid the minute you get out of it!". The sony ad is saying that because they Japanese are shorter, they are closer to the circuit board and better able work on the parts.

    So, given the demographic that seems to like "texting", isn't this like lotteries ie. a tax on stupid people? It seems to me to be only interesting to people for which email is some sort of "novelty".


    That may be true elesewhere, but not in the Phillippines. According to this article, text messages in the Phillipines are pervasive and cheap. They get pay per use cell phones for about $5.00 and can strech that to two months with 4 text messages/day (vs. .5 hours talk time).

    He is saying make the easy way the secure way. When I send an email, the most natural way to do it is to click the send button. If there is a menu option hidden three menus deep to encrypt and send, it will not be used. Therefore, the send button should do the more secure function.

    I don't think they are going to act unless there is fraud. The laws proscribing fraud are pretty clear. I'm not sure which "freedom is taken away from the govered" - the freedom to cheat people?
