Yeah - and as soon as you have this sort of facility available, the terrorists dont even have to hijack the plane itself......they just have to hack the comms / hijack the command centre and then take over lots of planes and crash them into whatever place they want.

Perhaps the lack of option for more powerful graphics card is a result of the design specs. (design spec as in the artistic design as opposed to technological design). Such a lot is packed into such a tight form factor, that you have to wonder about heat dissapation. I would wager money that higher end graphic chipsets were tried, but that their increased performance/heat production was an issue and thus a lower end chipset was chosen.

in the UK, a public bar can offer spirits in EITHER 25ml or 35ml (1/4gill) measures. They have to apply for their licence to do so, and somewhere prominent in the bar there will be a plaque advising the patrons of which of those volumes a "standard measure" is.

And to make it worse, if you are in england/wales, you generally have to drink it up before 11pm as thats when the bars close. In Scotland however, its a WHOLE different matter :D Thank god for scottish licensing laws! :D

man...i KNOW that pain! The problem is that its completely unfeasable to go through 1000 pieces of suspected spam every few days, to make sure you havent killed a legitimate email. An interesting idea. I havent myself had many spam emails with VERY long names (of which systematic organic nomenclature would be a subset). The only problem - as ever - is that as soon as spam sending f*ckers know about exceptions, it will only be a minute until you see "1,3-benzodioxole-5-methyl-buy-your-v1a9ra-from-me -now-you-gullible-fool"

Sigh......i guess until we have a new technological solution to spam, ie maybe one of the computationally intensive task based email qualifications - this will be a mute point.

Well, to start. V = Vanadium

Also, systematic chemical formualas are not of the form C18H21NO3 etc...... a systematic chemical formula would be something like:

    5alpha,6alpha)-7,8-Didehydro-4,5-epoxy-3-methoxy -
    17-methylmorphinan-6-ol

Both describe morhpine, however, C18H21NO3 could ALSO equally apply to N-[2-(1,3-Benzodioxol-5-yl) ethyl]-N-(2-ethoxybenzyl)amine.

Both of these examples show types of names that could commonly come up in an email. Also, i should mention that both these molecules are relatively simple, we could expect much more (cant give real examples for commercial reasons) complicated compound names each and every day.

  15. Re:Spelling on Revolutionary Spam Firewall Developed · · Score: 1

The problem for chemists is that systematic nomenclature requires large molecules to have compound names (compound as in "lots-of-words-put-together-with-15'-or,more-names -in-there" as opposed to chemical compound). Since systematic names have many of the same characteristics as spam (ie lots of "-" "," "'" etc)...it could be a problem - especially when the parent to my original comment suggested a purely dictionary based effort - ie , if there is a word not in there - its a spam email.

  16. Re:Spelling on Revolutionary Spam Firewall Developed · · Score: 2, Insightful

....and you must remember that chemists such as myself, will sometimes send an email to a colleague containing the systematic chemical name of a chemical which has just been synthesised for the first time. There is no way a dictionary based check would pass that, as we are effectively creating new "dictionary entries" each day.
