"if you are too fucking stupid to take care of yourself, and your family then someone else needs to do it for you"
This is what I can't stand when people start to rave, read carefully...someone else doesn't need to take care of YOUR mess YOU created it, YOU started it - YOU need to take care of YOU'RE own mess and not expect other people (government) to do it for you - If you cant handle it DONT DO IT!! I dont like hearing people saying that they want the government in their house, because dammit you cant trust them to do anything right they screw up everything they get their hands on.
Like I said b4 you need a license to drive a car, but they allow any idiot to have a family. I think they should have to evalute every friggen person who wants to get married and have kids and then sign an agreement that it is their responsibility and they will recieve jail time if not followed. This should make you happy, this probably wouldn't have stopped Columbine, but the parents would have seen some jail time for not paying attention to what there kids where doing.
I dont agree! I wish I only worked 8 hours a day to try to support my family. I come home and I still need to work, study...etc Jesus Christ this isnt the 50's where you can support a family on one wage anymore (and still be able to take a vacation - crap I havent had a vacation in years!)I can't live in a Dr. Laura world - I would be homeless and my family would be on the street. Sorry to break it to you, things are a little tougher in this day and age.
I do need to mention that I spend time everyday with my kids no matter how busy I am, I ASK about there school, I ASK how they are doing, I ASK if anything is wrong, I ASK what there needs are, I ASK What they want to be when they grow up - do you see a pattern here??? I take time to see what my kids are doing and what there interest are and I dont let the government do my job - because I dont trust the friggen government, they dont do anything right. (oh yes and Lee Harvey Oswald was a lone gunmen - yah right)
Oh and by the way I do have an SUV but it is for my family's protection (yes protection not for my 'status', my wife insisted on this for the kids) - If we get into an accident it is going to be more likely that you're gonna be dead not me or my Family! so haha how do you like them apples.
"Just like linux is always trying to catch up to MicroSoft"
I believe Linux isnt trying to catch M$ at all. Linux is used by intelligent people who like to use a great pruduct and not pay out the nose for it. It is M$ who is afraid of Linux and thinks of it as "it's biggest threat".
"Software development is best left to the professionals, people who've been formally educated, etc"
after I read this I knew you had to be one of the stupidest Windows users ever to type on a keyboard. - My kudo's go out to all the people and INTELLIGENT programmers who have made Linux what it is today. - Oh and by the way you bucked tooth Brit, I dont have any 'Formal' IT education, - I self taught myself through studying books (do they use books to get formally educated???) and looking at others work (something the GPL should be thanked for) and I'm a Applications developer making more money than you could ever imagine - but then again I'm on a unix environment and that is something you could not even fathom - if it doesnt have pretty little buttons YOU COULDNT USE IT!
LINUX - It's like DOS on steroids!!
Now go see a dentist and fix those god damn teeth!!
Unfortunately the space craft has M$ Winblows as its OS. I can just see it now - "Well the crew was just about to land on the planet, with the Aliens of the planet welcoming us in open arms.....until the blue scrren of death appeard, the pilot lost control of the ship, super-powered-plasma-coldfusioned-light-year-jumpi ng engine ignited, the ship was catapolted around the planet into their sun where the reaction of the engines with the sun caused the sun to super-nova.....Nasa is now looking for another planet with life...and putting Linux in the new space craft!"
Remember, wherever you go, there you are!
I dont really care if Napster lives or dies to tell you the truth. I've used Gnutella, Imesh etc.. and they work just as well. I do need to argue this statement:
the RIAA has been detrimental to music. How many times have you heard this statement: "So-and-so is okay, but I liked their earlier stuff better." I know I've said it many times. What happens, I believe, is that because of the contracts for X number of albums, the "artists" do not put their heart into the music. They know they have their contract to fall back on. They can write a couple of good songs and fill their album with crap, and because of those good songs, they will make money still.
I actually have someone in my family that has been signed by a record label, received gold/platinum albums and then had the band broke up. What I don't agree with in your analagy is that - Most bands play for years and years (and years) before getting 'discovered' and in that time span they will have a rock solid album with their 12 best songs. Now the record company will want a follow up album in less than a year! So they have to conjur up all the talent they have to create something that is rushed to market where they're given no 'ifs ands or buts' - just get an album out (and believe me the record companies can be complete asses - money is their bottom line). So what you get is a great first album and the second, third album is just crap because they have no time to work on the songs. Talk to any musician that has been signed and I bet you will hear something similar. Oh and by the way most musicians dont get into music to make money they do it because they love making music - not because they hope to get signed and make big money (oh and just because you get signed doesnt gaurantee that you will make money - you friggen dipshit) I believe this to be a more realistic analagy of what happens when you say "I liked their earlier stuff better." So please, next time you try to think - please pull your head out of your ass first (it will at least unclog your ears for you to listen to common reasoning)
Give the dog biscuit back to the dog! He's one fat and ugly guy!! Maybe the best thing that happened to him is loosing his job - hopefully he wont have enough money to buy groceries and can loose some friggen weight!

When I read the article it felt like the clouds parted and rays of sunshine were comming down - finally we're reaching a technology break through that Micro$oft/IBM/INTEL cant control or squash.....
then I read what you guys have been saying about the real use of this pc would be (flight simulations, huge engineering questions etc..) and that for typical pc use it would be to expensive and painstaking to program - crap! Thanks guys, as always you put the reasoning back into my fantasies. But hey just think of the things NASA can fake us out with now with this 'hyper-computer' - you know since the moon landings were all fake.
Hey has anyone heard anything about quantum computers? and how far they have come along??
IMHO if you can't figure out how to install it, you probably shouldn't be using it. When I think back when I installed my Linux I had to research my entire computer and find out about the hard drive, cd-rom, cpu, ethernet card, Monitor, etc, etc... which for a newbie can be very frustrating and time consuming - they just want to press the pretty little button and have it installed. I believe most newbies in computing in gerneral don't know jack about the computer they are using (and don't care - "I just hope my PC has a compatable 3d graphics card for this new game"). But in the Linux world you ask a Linux user what kind of system they have and 8 out of 10 will be able to tell you verbatim. You may ask is this a good thing to know? I beleive the more you know about the hardware the more you will know about your puter's capabilities. - and yes I do have a compatable 3d graphics card (time to play some Quake!!)
It's like having twelve different flavors of ice cream that are all strawberry
I tend to agree with this statement. I have been using RedHat for about 6 months now. I am fairly new to Linux and RedHat is the only distro that I have used so far. I have read about other distro's - gone into the irc's and talked to other people about other distro's, and I have come up with this thinking: who has the better looking logo? (yep that's about it - and I think RedHat by far has the coolest looking logo)
I hear about some distro's being better for serving others being better for a workstation. but hey, My feeling is use whatever works for you. My needs were simple....I have a windows box that was maxing out on HD space, and I needed a server to put those space hogging files into. I heard about Samba and decided what the hell time to try out this Linux thing. To make a long story short I am now a converted Linux user and haven't touched my windows box in ages and that is usualy just to play games. Oh and by the way, I use my RH Linux server as a workstation. I have installed KDE and Gnome - I use KDE 98% of the time (but that is just personel preference), I have installed apache with php - so now I'm creating dynamic websites. And I think learning Perl is my next project.
So in laymen's terms I have a file & print server / Apache web server / and a workstation all in one box....is this the correct distro for it, is this how the linux box should be used or set up? - who cares! it works for me and I am happy using it. And if the Redhat distro didn't work for this set up I would check to see which one did - Which you can't do with Winblows!
Remember - "Where ever you go, there you are"
I agree, look at some of the truely great, recent accomplishments of religion:
What??!! are you high!!
lets recap shall we....
<i>The lasting peace that has spread across the Middle East,</i>
Ever heard of something called the Crusades! where the Popes of the time would send out there "holy armies" to kill the everyone who wasn't catholic - oh and I wont even go into the the Spanish Inquisition (sp?) oh and since you did mention Middle East I would like you to go into Iraq / Iran and tell everyone you see that you are American and Catholic and see how long you live! - peace my ass!
<i>The preservation of 2000 y.o. statues in Afganistan</i>
??? a statue ??? WTF??? this is something you consider a great accomplishment of a religion? -then you should check out buddhism - I bet you'll find older statues out there in the Orient!
<i>The elimination of poverty, illiteracy, and violence in the U.S. thanks to "faith based" initiatives, </i>
Dude you are High!! ever hear of something called religious tidings. Hell I've heard the Mormons take 15% of your wage income! (and the Catholics aren't much better) - illiteracy?? I will thank the schools for that not a religion (I cant ever in my past think of a time were a priest was teaching me how to read - it was a teacher) - elimination of violence??? how about abortion clinic bombings? I believe these are done by what are called the "religious wackos".
<i>And, of course, the preservation of online rights of privacy and the free expression of ideas as demonstrated by this article</i>
This is not because of religion or faith based groups that preserve our rights on-line it is the average citizen reading our constitution (thanks to teachers not priests) and telling our government to get off our backs. Now that I think of it, it is usually some faith based group that wants to ban sites from the people (like porn and etc...).
I appologize in advance if I sound harse or crude here, but I can not sit here idley while someone tells me how great organized religions are when looking at them up close you will see the hipocracy leak out left and right. Hell it is easier to question our government (and get answers) then it is to ask a questions to a religion (and get a more confusing answer then the one you asked - or none at all)
Dude, it's a 95 Jeep Cherokee (not even a 2 door) so it's not like a 40 ton hummer - jeesh

It must be hoot to live in your house! I think you have some issues in your own childhood to work out....
Damn the government forces you to need a license to drive a car, but any screwed up IDIOT is allowed to have kids!
I think we are being bombarded by the religious wackos, who try to tell everyone else how to live (then they go home and molest their kids!!)
