Its really quite obvious once you see it. The shared cockpit design, the high mounted engines above the wing, and the general idea behind the combination.
Dieter Wulf's article in The Atlantic Magazine shows a picture (not on the web) of a Wunderwaffen or Nazi "miracle weapon" that looks exactly like the White Knight Space Ship One combo. Not to knock Burt Rutan or anything, but it goes to show the German war machine did some serious thought. What's interesting is that they current thoery on the plane was to fly it into US buildings.
I get more damn 419 Spam than I can shake a dead Nigerian father at. I always worry that the guys at 419.fcd@usss.treas.gov are going to start resenting me.
What Space Ship One did is 50 years out of date. Nothing new, just a shift from public to private sector. Plus its a rip off of a luftwaffe design for a two part transatalantic bomber.
I still enjoy a good round of Starcon2 Melee. Thanks to open source movement and Toys for Boy I can download Ur-Quan Masters at sc2.sourceforge.net. I hooked up my little cousins with it this weekend and they loved it. My favorite quote was, "the pkunk rule!" Ahhhh the joys of calling your enemies "JACKASS!" in deadly dule around the gravity well of a rainbow world.
Remeber it's based on the first computer game of all time, Spacewar for the PDP-1. It owns all you pong loving bitches, (pong was the first VIDEO game btw.)
Bob has some funny stuff to say on the matter too.
I've seen em all. I liked the soap opera ones the least I think they float in the direction of badness.
Totoro is simple like a black and white lithograph, grease pen on stone bold lines and sublte back fill. Poco and Kiki are both very simple but one is yin and one is yang. I think Disney stole that Ballou air pirate show from Poco Roco just like they stole that stupid Atlantis movie. But hey give me a break, Sen to Chihiro wasn't that great a movie. It was good, hell it is far better than 99.9% of anime made today but it was childish. Intentionally childish but childish nonetheless. I am not a child. I appreciated the minutiae of the thing and the aesthetics but it was boring and transparent to me.
Mononoke and Nauscaa on the other hand are the adult works of a master. They are able to compress uncertainty and nuance into a single fractal meme. They deal with race, class, gender, the enviroment, religion, fanactism, arrogence, hate, evolution, love, and most of all the unreality and change inherinate in the universe. Nothing in Chihro rose the masterwork level. I would give Miyazaki a Ph.D. for Mononoke but Cihiro is only undergraduate quality (granted an undergraduate genius.) Don't cut people slack becasue they are good at what they do, hold them to a higher standard.
Fuck Disney. I watch em in Japanese with subtitles. Eisner can drown in his own shit for all I care, and if the stock holders have their way he might. God I hope shove the entire reel of "The Alamo" up his ass for wasting my money like that.
I mentioned Laputa because it invokes Howl in no small part. It seems redundant. I love Laupta btw the best part is the yin yang island. Half wet, biological, and free and half brittle, technical, and domineering. I also love it for being so damn Welsh. It's fantastic.
Sexuality is the charge of life. Not just in the sense of the Tao, the sense of a the universal forward direction, but also in terms of electricity, the attraction of polar sexual opposites to drive all higher forms of life. DO bacteria and viri have souls? All they do is asexually replicate. Does a dog have a soul or a giant squid?
All religions break down in the face of science except Taoism because all religions are based on human arrogance and ignorance. Taoism is based on quantum uncertainty and questioning. It is the journey that matters to the Taoist not some stupid beginning or end made up thousands of years ago to make someone feel better about themselves. Why concern your self with deluding yourself and others with imagined creation myths or bullshit social controls when you can simply find the best way through life.
Spirited Away was a pale gost next to Mononoke and Nausicaa. A child next to a master. What you should be asking is "is it better than La puta?" A movie about a moving castle.
The Minehune are a little people who lived in Hawaii and were famous for building technical projects in a single night. Hmmm, not a long way across the Pacfic from Indonesia? We should do genetic studies of the bones and cross refernce to natives on Kauai, who haved claimed as recently as the 60's era census to be Minehune
Cold Fusion is not making it so far on large scale but they would make great hot water heaters. Add 100 watts of power get 110 watts of heat. Not going to save the world but it would save on your cost per shower.
Space based solar farms loose a tiny fraction of power. The reason we use microwavs for telecom trans mission is becasue they pentrate clouds and weather with easy and loose very littel power over space to Earth distances. Latency is not an issue with power. The phased array makes it so you could fly a plane through the beam with no damage.
Wind power sucks. Surface winds are slow and intermitant. The cost per unit is huge, and they are unslightly. Gyromills are far superior in every way. Becasue they work in the jet stream they generate many time the power of a windmill and have a lower capital cost.
I can't imagine why cloning as any bearing AT ALL on the soul. The body is a vessel that creates a space for the soul. Identical twins were never a problem for the idea of a soul and all clones are identical twins. This whole thread is a waste of breath.
Also for more interesting issues on the soul look into the pineal and DMT. The Buddhist believe that the soul enters the body at 45 days. The same time frame for the first observable sexual difference in the developing human. Just an asexual bundle of cells till something makes it either male or female, yin or yang, positive or negative. From the one comes the two...

I fully agree. There's little reason these journals should cost what they do other than the crushing burden of printing for such a small audience. How much does the jury earn on these journals? It's the kind of thing I would assume is a gratis service by the peers. So why don't they go all electronic. No one in acadamia is ever more than 10 feet from a computer. They could also license the ability to print the documents hard copy for the guy in Patagonia looking at ant behaviot in mud puddles.
The for cost I was thinking for LexusNexis. Although they recently intoduced a pay per item pricing system ~$1+ per page.
There is also the zero point energy, cold fusion (which does work according to Sandia and Lawrence Livermore,) gyromills, TDP (thermal deployerization,) space based solar farms using phased array microwave lasers, geothermal and of course reduced consumption.

What Google really needs is a for pay LexisNexis tab so you can find real information from real sources in real time. That and a tab that indexes full text medical and science journals. Those damn journals! I love em but I don't have hundreds of dollars a year for each Psych. journal I want to read and hate going to libraries if I just want to see what's shaking in the world of science. With full text periodicals and full test journal search Google would become a singularity of information.

Spelling is a crock anyway, go back to the earliest schollars of English and and plum the fights of prescriptivism vs. descriptivism. For thousands of years since no one can agree on if we should spell what we say or say what we spell. If you can understand the referent then the sign doesn't really matter does it?
I said "Not to say they couldn't make a real time fault free system if they wanted to. All they need to do is start from the ground up, spent what needed to be spent, and didn't give a shit about UI or market share."
Do I think they will, no. Could they? Yes.
How old is Voyager? What's it running on? This stuff isn't hard to do. You want good software from M$ dock pay for managers by how large the code is. You reduce the size of your code by 20% and it works? 20% pay increase.
There was a post on slashdot about getting a working version of Window95 down to 4 megs. Imagine a world where the code is writen is assembly and every bit is clean and sharp and works. Instead of building systems that erward bloat reward style, grace, and genius.
No your wrong, people say POSIX programers who work for NASA and Nuclear power plants are the smartest programers in the world. (Or at least I do.) Fuck M$. Not to say they couldn't make a real time fault free system if they wanted to. All they need to do is start from the ground up, spent what needed to be spent, and didn't give a shit about UI or market share. Run it in triplicate on three CPU's and discard the result if one disagrees.
No there are few cars becasue the bus ssytem works better than the cars.
Biodiesal is A TERRIBLE idea. The US is the only country in the world with expanding forest land, to get enough seed crop to power the US we would have to re-convert all that land back into farms and then use lots of diesel to farm it. Changing World Technologies Thermal Deploymerization is far better and gets rid of garbage at the same time.
You don't get it. All it requires is closing roads to cars (in the city center) and setting them as bus only, no new construction at all.
Also busses can be better in the snow than cars. More mass, more surface area of contact, more low end torque.
Look it up. Read about it. Don't just knee jerk back that I'm wrong. This system is the best tranist system in the world for a reason. Flexable thinking, a distaste for spending money, and hard work made it happen.
Thanks for posting that...
