2) In the suite, type-ahead find works everywhere. That includes the View Source window and email messages. In the seperate apps, it only works in the main browser window.
This works fine for me in Firefox 1.0's view source windows. I use it all the time on both OS X and Windows.
Speaking as a former resident of Burbank, that city has way too many cops on the street. I have never been pulled over so much in my life, each stop taking the time of two to three police cars instead of the one that would be perfectly sufficient. The fact that most times I wasn't even cited for actual traffic infractions suggests that they look for any petty reason to stop people and then find a reason to write them a ticket.
Maybe with a reduction in the force, drivers would be harassed by bored cops less often. I'm all for it.
I had trouble voting this morning too, in Alameda County, CA, which uses Diebold voting machines. My problem wasn't related to the voting machines, but it looks like there are problems with how non-electronic votes are being handled (not to mention that Alameda country election workers were instructed not to tell people about their right to vote on paper).
Despite the fact that I called the Alameda Country Registrar of Voters last week and confirmed that my GF and I had been registered, our names weren't on the list this morning. All we could do was fill out provisional ballots in the hope that it would be sorted out.
While we were there, a woman came in and requested a paper ballot, the way we were going to if we had been allowed to vote normally. The poll worker responded by giving her a provisional ballot too, saying that those are the only paper ballots they have. So that's how Alameda county is handling people who don't trust the electronic voting machines: they throw them in with the people who may or may not even be allowed to vote. That doesn't exactly fill me with confidence that these votes will actually be counted (as I understand provisional ballots often aren't).
Registration problems seemed to be a recurring theme this morning. While we were there we saw more people taking provisional ballots than using the machines. Unfortunately, it wasn't because people were requesting them, but because the rolls were so screwed up. To top it off, the poll location only had three (3) pens to fill them out with. Nice planning guys.
We spoke to the guy in charge afterward and registered our complaints about the registration problems, the way non-electronic votes were being handled, and the utter lack of organization and knowledge on the part of the poll workers, this guy included. He actually said that we seemed to know more about it than he did. This is not what I want to hear from the people in charge of collecting votes.
I called the registrar of voters afterward and confirmed again that we are registered and that we did in fact go the right polling location. The only explanation they could give me was that late registrations were sent to the voting locations separately and that maybe they weren't checking both lists. The woman I spoke to took down my complaint about this and the general incompetence we experienced and admitted that this doesn't come as a big shock to her. This last bit makes it even worse. If they are aware of the problems with the people running these things, why haven't they done something about it?
Are you sure they weren't there representing Apple? I've known some real nerds in my time, but never anyone quite bad enough to go out in a group of people all dressed alike.
Some of those, like the sad Mac tattoos, are funny in a geeky sort of way. Others, like the Apple logo itself are just plain stupid. I'm a very satisfied Mac user too but I can't imagine what must be going through someone's head when they decide that getting a corporate logo tattooed on themselves is a good idea.

I'd like to tell you how much OS X sucks. Why?
- Only one mouse button
It sounds like your problem here is with the hardware. Fair enough, but it really has nothing to do with OS X, which has built-in support for multi-button mice (which I also prefer).
- Window management is rediculous. You can't maximize a window without jumping through hoops.
I don't consider dragging the corner of the window until it fills my screen to be "jumping through hoops". True, OS X doesn't have a maximize button, but it's not difficult to resize your window to whatever size you want.
- Safari is way better than Internet Explorer on Windows, but far, far the inferior of Firefox
I agree but, like any OS on earth, if the software that comes with the system doesn't suit your needs, you can use a third party application that does. By this reasoning, Windows and Linux both suck as well (of course all software sucks, but I digress). I don't use Safari on my Mac, but neither do I use IE on Windows or Konqueror at work on my Linux/KDE system. This doesn't mean any of these OSs suck particularly, it just means that the defaults don't all suit my needs/preferences.
I sold my Dell laptop two years ago in favor of an iBook and have never looked back.
The owners of the site are certainly making money from all of it, but it's not a secret that the girls don't get paid very much. They're not living off SG, that's for sure, and they're contractually obligated not not pose for competing sites, so most of them probalby aren't making a living off modeling at all.
These two points (pay and non-compete rules) came up once in a while on the forums when I was member a while back. They were both confirmed by the girls on the site.
To address a couple other points: First, it's a porn site, but soft-core. I'm sure they could make more money going hard-core, but they haven't yet. Secondly, what's wrong with posing nude for money? If they're doing it because they want to and aren't being exploited, I say more power to 'em.
Being different from the mainstream does not require being different from every single other person out there. Look at any "alternative" scene for examples: goths, punks, etc.
I think in a lot of cases, people aren't drawn to these scenes because they want to be different, but rather that they alraedy have non-mainstream tastes/interests that happen to be shared by others involved in the aforementioned scenes (although the opposite is certainly true in a lot of cases, it isn't universally true).
You're assuming the cease and desist letter is a scam then? I think it's probably real (god knows we've seen stupider C&Ds), which is why I would expect it to come from the law firm's own network. This does not preclude it coming from a bot though, I'm just of the opinion that it's a bot run by the law firm. This definitely has not-very-bright-automated-process written all over it.
Any subscriber to the site gets to put up their own profile and such.
I realize I'm stereotyping Slashdot readers as predominantly straight males here, but I pretty sure it's an accurate assumption. If I'm wrong about you, feel free to tell me to piss off.
It's a soft-core porn site where subscribers can post a user profile and journal, and there are forums. The girls who model for the pics usually participate in the forums and keep journals, which adds to the community feel of the site. They recently added slashdot-style news posts to the front page, which doesn't really make sense to me, given their main focus.
Why does everyone keep talking about goth girls? The vast majority of the girls on the site aren't even remotely goth. "Alternative" might be a better word.
It's a decent site for a while, if you're into that type of thing (I certainly am, having been involved in the punk and goth scenes all of my post-adolescent life), but it gets old fairly quickly.
As has been said many times before, the traffic w3schools gets is not representitive of the web using population as a whole. People interested in teaching themselves web design/development are going to be more technically knowledgeable and more likely to seek out technically-superior alternatives to the browser that came installed with Windows. The vast majority of people out there are not part of this group.
It's not difficult to write valid XHTML that renders perfectly in IE. Furthermore, it's not difficult to write valid XHTML that not only renders perfectly, but also nearly identically in both IE and Gecko-based browsers.
FIX: simply mouse over a link before you click, and wait a little...
I haven't tried it, but couldn't the web site author just use onclick instead of onmouseover? That way they could be sure the script won't fire until the right time.
If I were writing this exploit, this would be the obvious way to do it, so I expect Secunia thought about it as well, so this method probably doesn't work as I think it might.
the minute you have to say "Berkley" to describe the product your business partners will run away screaming. "Some adolescant university pet project to run my core systems??? Are you nuts!?!?"

Netscape released the Mozilla source, not AOL. It was already open source by the time they bought it, so they don't get credit for releasing it.
On the other hand, they did open source AOLserver, so they're actually somewhat friendly to the idea (surprisingly).

You forgot about those of us living in counties using Diebold voting machines. Our vote doesn't count either.

I was about to say the same thing. This relates to punk music how, exactly?

Yes, but my grandmother isn't reading w3schools.

What's happened to Slashdot when the parent post isn't modded up Funny? How disappointing.
Remember, this is San Francisco we're talking about. Jaywalking here during peak hours is actually very easy because none of the cars are moving!
