  1. Moondoggle all over again on Let's Not Go To Mars · · Score: 1

Let's all sing a round of 'Whitey on the Moon', and run out and get a copy of Moondoggle (if you can find one)... It's _easy_ to come up with reasons why we shouldn't try and do hard things. We can, should, and will, do them anyway.

  2. Re:And evolution is? on Federal Judge Rules Against Intelligent Design · · Score: 1

    'The Eye'...

There are single celled creatures still alive that demonstrate how the eye evolved. A light receptive 'eye spot' that functions on a very low level to allow the creature to orient towards light for photosynthisis.

This from a Christian who believes in 'intellegent design'... Your argument, along with the 'wings' argument, and several similar arguments don't stand up to scrutiny. Neither does the evolutionary time line stand up to mathematic propabilities. It's an open argument which neither side can prove right now. Doesn't explain how this Judge was able to make the call without proof one way or the other.

Sam didn't look into the mirror. It was Frodo only (in the movie anyway). Your point is still valid, Frodo saw the shire under sharkey's control.

    You might try either

    Citadel Computers or
    Glacier Computers

These systems are designed to be used in industrial applications, including fork lift mounted. They can be ordered with a flash disk of up to a gig, waterproof, freezer proof, et al. My company has been using them for years. They will live up to just about anything. They are not, however, cheap.

  6. 5250-HTML WorkStation Gateway on AS400 Client Access Clone for Linux? · · Score: 2, Informative
OS/400 provides an integrated 5250 to HTML converter. There is some information provided at: Redbooks. This utility has some security issues for internet usage, but works well on an internal network. Once enabled, it converts any 5250 program to HTML on the fly, complete with a row of Function key buttons.

Other than that, the AS/400 functions as an FTP server, and uses 5250 terminal emulation. The previous links to the tn5250 application should work fine.

  7. Re:Missing documentation on Opposing Open Source? · · Score: 1
I see little or no documentation out of Microsoft for the stuff I buy, either. Nor did I ever get much out of Sun or IBM.

While I'll agree with you on MS, and have never done much business with Sun, I have to call you on IBM. Documentation that comes with an AS/400 will fill several bookshelves. They have recently quit distributing the 300lbs of dead trees, and now send it on CD, but the quantity and quality of documentation is great.

  8. Tonight's Enterprise Premier on Hackers: Uncle Sam Wants You! · · Score: 1

They're too late, tonight's Enterprise Premier is the perfect place for this 'public service' announcement.

  9. Binary driver on Trident Micro Changes Policy Toward XFree86 · · Score: 1

Perhaps by some carefully worded email, we could get them to release a binary driver for Linux (AKA NVidia). At least we would not have to remove them from the hardware compatability lists.

I just read a very funny, though possibly in poor taste, joke at http://www.netfunny.com/rhf/jokes/99/Apr/columbine .html. I just wanted to thank you for pointing me in this direction... Were it not for your cease-and-desist letter to this website (and the subsequent article on slashdot), I, and millions of other slashdot readers, would have never had the chance to enjoy this humor!
