Several of those features wouldnt necessarily really increase the size of the worm. Also there could be some that are going around with out the extra features and some with, and once it took hold the ones without could dl from the ones with to gain extra functionality.
I think it is going to be worse if someone actually has an objective (ie terrorists) because all of the worms I have heard of have been fairly poorly engineered.
A well engineered worm would:
Work on many different system.
Use more than one security flaw. (spread by email, + kazaa, + IE hole, + sendmail hole)
Patch that flaw once compromised, and open a separate hole
Have at least different attack modes (slow and quiet and local sub nets, fast and hard and whole internet)
Build up to critical mass before initiating fast attack mode.
Attempt to hide itself from scans. (maybe randomly stop functioning for a while to offer false sense of security)
Adjust its fingerprint so that it isn't simple to find computers which have the worm (use different ports, different protocols, send some different data when filling buffers etc)
Offer a payload that makes patching difficult, goes after security websites that often offer patches, targets financial institutions, etc.
Patch other programs on the system, back to previous insecure versions.
And that's just off the top of my head. If someone really is sitting down and thinking about this, Im sure they could come up with much more dangerous specifications.
I think someone should be writing a competing worm that patches all vulnerable systems, just in case this breaks out in to a chrisis.
I think the situation is not symetrical. France in the midst of a rather small, yet very multicultural continent. It is more of a necessity for French (and other Europeans) to be multi-lingual, for business, and even social reasons. Since most other European contries' school systems teach English as the "Common Language" It would also make sense for French to have learned English. Whereas, residents of the United States a in a fairly mono-cultural environment, and so multilinualism is not so much a necessity. However, many US residents know Spanish, which is the second largest language group in the US. I think you would find if you were Spanish and asked in Spanish, you would find very little trouble finding help in most large cities, esp in the South. I dont think it is unreasonable for someone to expect to be able to find help in the language that is most used in cross cultural communication, in the capital of France.
I had the same problem. I speak English and Spanish. When I was visiting Paris, I arrived in the train station during this year's strike. I could not find a train schedule and the information desk was closed. I asked every train station employee I could find if they could speak English: "Parle vouez Anglais" and none would admit that they did, although I suspected outherwise. Finally I got in the long ticket line despite the fact that I had a ticket already, in a last resort attempt to find a train schedule. I guess there were alot of people who had the same idea, and so the station had a representative going through the line and weeding out all the people not buying tickets. When she came to me and I asked if she spoke English, she grudgingly said that she spoke only a very little bit. When I began to explain my situation, it became obvious that she new English just fine. I felt very angry that so many people would be so rude as to refuse to answer a simple question, or to reply that they didnt know where I could get the schedule. It really gave me a bad impression of the French, expecially since everyone else on my trip through Europe was so friendly and helpfull. So I say thankyou to the Swiss, the Spanish, and the Italians, and to the French, I say: learn some manners.
I dont think it is circular reasoning for this reason: Discipline can be aquired in small steps, where as there is no clear way to aquire concentration in small steps.
Discipline is a skill, and for people who are not naturaly gifted with discipline, it takes practice. Just as you might learn the lines in a play, you set some small goal achieve that goal, repeat the process then take on a greater challenge.
Having discipline can solve alot of problems: Weight and unhealthy diet, lack concentration, procrastination, laziness, as well as almost anything else you want to change about your personailty. Discipline defeats victim mentality, and protects against depression and helplessness.
I think if dicipline was viewed as something that needs to be learned, more people might seek it as something to add to their education, along with math and language skills.
I suggest these excersizes: Pick something that is a little difficult to get yourself to do. Maybe you dislike pushups, or you hate doing dishes. As a dicipline exersize only, and not for any other benefit some task might give you, set a schedule and stick to it. I.e. "I will do pushups every other day at 5:30pm" or "I will do the dishes every night right after dinner" or "I will abstain from watching TV on tuesdays". Stick to it, and do not allow yourself to give an excuse. If it is inconvenient, do it anyway. Predict confilcts in your schedule and if you will not be able to complete your task because of a conflict, then do your task earlier and let that be the only thing that exempts you from doing it at your scheduled time. Excuses are the biggest obstical in learning discipline, so defeating them should take prioirity. Keep this going for several periods. When you feel you have mastered this, then take on a greater challenge. These challenges are not required to have any benefits, they simply must be more and more difficult to complete. After a few weeks you will feel more empowered, more ambitious and more self confident. You do however need to keep exercising it to keep your discipline muscle in shape, but it is easier the second time even if you let it go for a while.

* Sweatshops, sweatshops and... Oh! More sweatshops If those companies werent operating in 3rd world countries, where do you think those people would be working, and for what amount of money? Obviously, the more jobs there are in a country the more expensive labor is there, therefore adding jobs to an economy can only be good. Thats not to say that other effects of these companies arnt bad, i.e. ecological damage, but I cant see how anyone can complain about a company adding jobs.
* good ol' days of Feudalism, with a few rich corporate tycoons lording over nations of poor Have you somehow deluded yourself into beliveing that it has ever been different. In a 150 year time line, we are doing pretty well as far as power to the people. If you think it used to be that companies had less power, I would disagree. I think now its just more obvious, and socialy acceptable to speak about it.
* they're paying them a tiny fraction of what they're selling the product for They do that here in the USA also. I see no problem that. Why should a workers pay have anything to do with the cost of the product (unless it is a consumer product in which case it is in the company's best intrest to make it affordable to employees)? How would selling a product for a large factor more than the payment to employees be wrong other than arbararily deeming it unfair?
* (and what the programmers skills are worth) Programmers skills are worth what programmers are willing to work for. The market decides these values. How would we otherwise determine the worth of a programmers skills?
* they're moving on as soon as prices start to climb Do you have evidence of this? I dont believe they would just move off. They have to invest in infrastructure. Also, the market is self balanceing... If companies were to move on and there are less jobs, then people will be willing to work for less. And hence they would move back. Also if other people are willing to work for less, they probably need the job more.
* They're taking advantage of their lower living conditions... I live in Pennsylvania. There is a lower cost of living here than there is in Silicon Valley. If companies move to PA from CA, are they "taking advantage of lower living conditions" to employ me instead of CA residents? What if a manufactureing company moves out of PA and into WV because labor is cheaper there, is that "takeing advantage of lower living conditions"?
* And they don't care about qualified labour, they just want workers who can deliver software, no matter how broken. Qualified labor is defined by people who are able to produce a product that consumers will buy. The will of the buyer determines the quality level of the product. Again who decides what is a "good" quality level? It should be the market. All other determiniations are arbitrary.
Of course they are going to try and pay them as little as possible. Do you really think your company isnt trying to pay you as little as possible? Its a matter of context, and cost of living. If they were to pay them US rates it would be irresponsible as it would drive up prices for everyone, including those who did not get the new IT jobs.
Also, it doesnt matter if they will give them health care coverage, with the money they make they will be able to afford more health care then they would have otherwise.
You say that the software company is looting them of their talent? How so? They are probably making more money than most of the other people in their region. Somehow though you believe that paying them the market price for their labor, and infusing cash into their economy is unfair and exploitation? I think that is rediculus. Here, lets say I was speaking up about the fact that there is public information available that would allow terrorist attacks on our country by means of cutting our data communcations. Simply by saying this publicly I could reasonably be causing a risk to national security. My statement might cause a terrorist to become aware that the information is available, and cause him/her to go looking where they otherwise wouldnt have. The government with the power to shut me up might censor me to avoid this risk. By doing so, however, they might put the country more at risk because now the problem will not get the attention, and may not get fixed before someone wishing to do harm stumbles on it by themselves.
What if Im a person with communist ideas? May I speak about them? Speaking about them might insite some group of people to riot or attack some US interest. Am I a risk to national security. What if I speak up against war? Am I a risk to national security. What if I speak publicly and ask the postal service to strike, and that causes a national mail crisis. Am I a risk to national security?

To flex, they require a large electrical current - up to 100 volts - which is then converted to heat energy.
Volts is not current! I can produce 100 volts easily from a small battery and an apprpriate circut, but not at sufficient current.
Efficient nanomuscles are in great demand because they can generate an enormous amount of energy for their weight and size.
Most of the mice that are the subject of cancer research are "Harvard mice". As a previous post noted normal mice dont have to worry about cancer, because they get eaten before getting old enough to have cancer. So, normal mice evolve in ways to evade predators.
For the "Harvard mice" the only threat is cancer. So maybe those mice have finaly evolved to avoid the only thing that is a threat to them: cancer.
The US postal system has been separated from the teet. The reason it has been able to work well is that it receives acts in a vaccuum. I believe that it receives no money from the government, and keeps the profit within the system. Its like a giant non-profit company owned by the federal government. It does have its problems though. The regulation that it does have has caused problems. Just do a search on google for: united states postal service business model
and if you are intrested in how the USPS is organized, look here.
Well there is alot of importance to the rainforests besides their carbon consumption. I think one of the real resources is the bio-diversity.
If (notice the emphasis) the carbon consumpton of the rainforests is, as it seems in these diagrams, not as significant as many have been lead to believe, then it has been irresponsible for those who are trying to protect this resource to over emphasize some particular data just because they believe they can get more attention that way. It seems to happen in every aspect of politics though. The use of half-truths is a powerfull political weapon that many cant resist using.
Thats really what I meant by different systems. To get the majority of systems you have to get several win varients.

They do not generate energy. They generate force.
Maybe this was the cause of the resistance.

Invest in this company NOW! It can only go up.
