Funny but if you think about it, lousy managers will just adapt and all it takes is one to slip into an organization to start hiring and promoting other idiot managers, thus killing off the host organism (your workplace).
Way back when (the eighties), the company I worked for processed numbers for one of the big chains of gas stations/mini-marts. We called to check on the numbers for one of the stations because they were selling gas for the same price as they were buying it. We were told the numbers were right--the station made its money on the expansion of the fuel during the day (I think the station was in Arizona). FWIW.
Obligations to their employees have nothing to do with poor designs and quality far below their Japanese competitors. Perhaps I'd buy that argument if price was the only differential between American and foreign cars but it is not by a long shot.
We are already buying Japanese cars and Chinese TVs with your "pay enough" attitude.
Say what you want about Chinese TVs but we buy Japanese cars because American cars, for the most part, bite and American car companies are too clueless to do anything about it.
Personally, while Blade Runner is a good movie, it seems to me it's just yet another "we built it, and now it goes bad and kills people" movie that we've seen a million times before.
If that's all you got out of the movie, especially given Roy's death scene, then I'm not convinced that you really watched the movie.
I remember an explanation around the time of the original release that this showed Solo was a bit of a B.S. artist. It fit his character and explained Obi-Wan's reaction so it sounded good to me.
You're right, of course. I have this weird mental thing where I often transpose VT and CT. Must be because I don't get to leave California all that often.:-)
You're right about Decker, she climbed the affirmative action ladder. A white man with her skills would be a no-name first line supervisor.
A few months ago I would have agreed with you. However, Warren Buffett thinks enough of her to add her to Berkshire Hathaway's Board of Directors. I will defer to his judgement on this one.
Did you really expect them to be able to do either of those things?
Yes. The American people, by a comfortable margin want the war in Iraq to end. For that to happen, the Democrats need the help of Republicans. For that, the Dems have to turn up the heat across the aisle to get the Republicans to listen to their constituents and stand up to their President. However, why should Republicans stand up to the President when the Democrats themselves won't even do it? When the Democrats unite and really dig in their heels on the war, the American people will support them and Republicans that vote to end the war. But, as usual, the Democrats have no unity and no spine. Why should Republicans break ranks?
You mean unlike Russia, which we have always had relations with even when they were that evil empire (who those missiles in Cuba actually belonged to)?
Then what are you bitching about? On the one hand you say you wnt to be a "nice" guy, then you bitch when being nice instead of smart costs you money (which you claim you don't care about if you can help a "nice" family out). The guy you were buying from raised his price? Guess what? You paid it, which means it was worth the extra $$ (it's called "fair market value"). You're complaining about your lawyer when you didn't follow the terms of your selling contract and hadn't yet entered into a contract on the house you were buying? The problem wasn't with your lawyer, the problem was in your mirror.
Of course the fact that the budget deficit is shrinking as revenues go up doesn't fit very well with people's argument that the tax cuts should be rescinded, so they put their fingers in their ears and keep claiming otherwise...
Monkey-boy Bush started his first term with a budget surplus in place, which doesn't fit very well with some people's argument that a shrinking deficit is cause for celebration. I will be impressed when the budget is balanced again, which isn't going to happen during his remaining time in office.
As I understand it, they can't get it back under that condition. If you have a legitimate use for the domain, which posting an email exchange is, as opposed to "Hey, if you want your domain back pay me $10,000", then you can keep the domain. But yes, it is trivially easy to do this. You just need to piss someone off enough to get them to do it. Hence the aforementioned "backfire".
I had someone demand I remove a link to someone in a rather heavy-handed way. Oh yes, it backfired. I bought the.net domain of the person's name and posted the whole email exchange. For years my page ranked higher than her own domain. I just checked now and it's only down to #2 and I don't even own hername.net anymore. As for the guy who tried to sanitize things, I have a separate page for him and it is still #1 when you Google his name. Yeah, these things can backfire if not handled properly.
I don't see a similar market opportunity in a free browser.
iPhone apps. They've broadened the developer base for apps (which they won't make money on) for the iPhone (which, presumably, they will make money on).

what is linux
Something that doesn't sync to your iPhone.

I, on the other hand, haven't been buying (or downloading) much if any music for years.
Welcome to middle age. :-)
I'm curious, how do u get a bunch of mice who are autistic to test?
You throw mice parties. Look for the mice along the walls that aren't talking to the other mice. Those are your autistic mice.
I have unoffensive ringtones I make myself and save as mp3s.
Me, too! Uh, wait...is Slayer's "Raining Blood" considered unoffensive?

This showed people they made a mistake and they tried to correct it by voting for his son.
You mean after Clinton was re-elected, right? What in the world are you talking about?
> Though Bush was born in Vermont
No he wasn't.

Here you go.

Bush didn't win his home state either.
Though Bush was born in Vermont, his home state is definitely Texas, which he did win.
You mean unlike Russia, which we have always had relations with even when they were that evil empire (who those missiles in Cuba actually belonged to)?
Alas, if Al Gore had won his home state back in 2000, he would have won the election and there would have been no Florida election fiasco.

It could be worse. One of his choices could have been Time-Warner instead of Comcast. I hate my new cable company...
Hey, that's not fair. He fixes PCs & tinkers & stuff. ;-)
