    Yeah but it was my first Mac and, though my 6290CD wasn't really expandable, I squeezed every single penny I spent out of that thing. External hard drive, zip drive, scanner, printer, Ethernet card for the cable modem. I ran Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Filemaker, and a mailing list on that thing. Made me really appreciate my dual 450 G4 when I bought it :-).

    To the untrained eye, perl looks like line noise, and may be rather difficult to maintain.

    Hey there, self. I've come here to tell you two things. First, you turn out okay. Second, I'm not going to tell you anymore because you need to take the same roads I took, make the same decisions, make the same mistakes as I did. You need to do that because you are going to have children someday and they are going to be the greatest joy of your life, the center of your universe, and you are going to be the best father ever. So just keep doing what you're doing. It won't always be happy times but trust me, they are worth it.

They don't hold anyone responsible for themselves and would gladly have government assume the responsibilty for the lives of everyone who might have something go wrong in their lives ( and that's everybody ) until there is no more reason to cultivate that spirit which makes us human and which differentiates us from each other.

    A lot of people had large sums of life insurance, but the insurance companies went to the Washington and said that if they had to pay out all the policies they would go bankrupt.

    That's not the way I remember it.

    I read The Fortune Sellers a few years back and it seems to be along the same lines. Basically, people who "predict" the future (be it the stock market, the weather, lifestyle trends, etc.) will highlight the year they got it right and not mention the times they got it wrong. Read it and you'll look at things differently (and never listen to long-range weather forecasts again).

    Ha! I watch too much HGTV and I always laugh when people spend a bunch of money on a remodel and include a custom cabinet to hold their 4:3 TV perfectly because I know they are going to be kicking themselves in a few years. I'm glad (in a gloating way) to see that it's already started ;-).

    Stability matters for some things but not others. Nodes in a render farm aren't mission critical; if one box drops off it's not that big of a deal because you have a lot of others to fall back on. In that case, you are looking more at bang-for-the-buck. Heck, you don't even need maintenance contracts on these boxes because if you can't revive a box, it's cheaper to just replace it.
