    What observations? How many Google employees have you talked to? Did you try to compile a random sample?

    Actually the book by Laszlo Bock "Work Rules", explains a lot about the Google hiring process. The most important point he makes is that hiring decisions at Google are made by committees of engineers, not managers.

    Well, it's been estimated that the number programmers doubles about every 5 years. So if you 40 that means you have been programming for about 20 years, so that means that about 90% of programmers will be younger than you. So if a company's median age is 43 that means they discriminate against young people. Here is a link with some data.

    If you take AP classes in High School and get decent grade on the AP test, you can skip past the intro courses. I started with second year calculus after doing AP Math in High school.

    The problem with this solution, that this is a law passed by the Spanish government. So, publishers are required to collect money, even if they don't want to.

    This is an example of a culture shock novel. The hero of the store returns from to Earth 200 years in the future and finds the culture incomprehensible.

    It is pretty difficult to imagine what a thing you cannot comprehend is like, and Lem does an outstanding (though still imperfect) job.

    If you haven't read this book give it a shot.

    While it is tragic, I agree. Many low-paid jobs are low-paid because many people that do them do not care about the quality of their work

    There is a reason for this. If you live rural, there is no backup. It comes down to your ability to handle doing surgery at 3 am effectively even though you haven't been home yet. Sure, you aren't as good as when fresh.

    Perhaps the problem is that there is no backup. There should be more than one doctor available. We are just not willing to pay for it.

    Working 90 hours a week is work hoarding. There are other people who could be doing this work and most likely better...

    I wonder how effective you can be at the end of 95 hour work week. Next time you fly on an airline, consider if you would want you pilot and copilot have similar "work ethic"....

    GPS does not measure airspeed, pitot tube does. Airspeed is needed for flight and that's what the pilot is mostly concerned with.
