While visiting Canada a few years ago, my fellow Americans and I were pleasantly surprised to hear *all* the words of a then-popular Alanis Morriset(sp?) song on the radio. The Australian who was with us looked at us like we were from Mars: "I thought you had free speech in America?"
Then Aus. passes their 'net censorship bill... go fig.
>I don't know about you, but if I'm going to entrust the life and health >of a child to someone for the duration of 8+ hours then they'd better >have a piece of paper to show me they know how
Whereas it's perfectly okay to entrust a child to someone 24/7 with no proof at all of their competence... provided they're fertile.
There's nothing wrong with a nice hot cup of tea, on either side of the pond. It doesn't work for me when I really need to stay awake, however. Somehow it manages to be soothing and stimulating at the same time (good for a sore throat, too), which is great on winter evenings but not so good when the users are screaming "it's broken!" Coke remains my beverage of choice; my coworkers can tell what kind of day I'm having by how often they hear the scrrk!-fizz of a can opening.
As for sleep -- glorious sleep! -- if I slept as much as my body would like, I'd either starve or get fired, because there wouldn't be enough time left in the day to both eat and work.
>(Visa converts currencies at whatever the >exchange rate is with no surcharge, so no loss >here)
You might want to check your Visa card agreement. Most credit card companies *do* impose a surcharge over the then-current conversion rate. Generally it's only about 1%, but if you're making a large purchase that can get to be alotta bucks.
I hear you on that one. Before high school, I had a virtually photographic memory. After years of being forced to choose between the repetition=learning method of so-called educators or flunking classes ("Hmm, no homework turned in, 100% on every test. Yep, that's an 'F'."), that ability has atrophied.
School pretty much sucked, but I think I have forgiven them everything but that.
"Where is the need for the civilian to have semi-automatic weapons in the first place?"
If you're going to advocate banning something ("semi-automatic weapons wouldn't be produced" implies banning, not "control"), you should learn what it is first. "Semi-automatic" does not mean machine gun; it simply means that the gun fires one bullet each time you pull the trigger. It's easier on the hands, and some people find their aim is better because they don't have to fool around with cocking the hammer. In terms of how fast you can shoot people if you're on an insane rampage, there's no practical difference between a semi-auto and a revolver. The media just likes to say "semi-automatic weapons" in that tone of horrified shock because they think it sounds cool.
So, either you're sadly misinformed, or you really think *all* guns should be banned. Maybe you should take a gun-safety course to get your facts straight before you take aim at other people's constitutional rights.

Wonderful stuff, Afri. Tastes horrible, gawd knows what's in it, but it sure works. IME, it's equivalent to about 3 bottles of Jolt.
;)
Or maybe it's just the taste that wakes you up.
