I was just wondering something after reading the story on news.com
On http://www.playmediasystems.com/clients.htm Mediaplay says that the below stated.

"Computer Scientist and PlayMedia co-founder Tomislav Uzelac invented and licensed the AMP(TM) L3d 0.7 Series Engine to a 19-year-old student and audio applications hobbyist named Justin Frankel in September of 1997."

    But on http://www.playmediasystems.com/playmedia_sues_nul lsoft.htm Mediaplay stat's

"PlayMedia's lawsuit alleges that the code for AMP was written by PlayMedia principal Tomislav Uzelac and thereafter copied to create WinAmp as a derivative work. Nullsoft attempted to obtain a license to use AMP in its software early last year, the suit alleges, but an agreement was not reached."

Are there different terms to "licensed"? I Don't understand how one can stat something on one page of there yet another on another section? Will there be fallow up stores of this? Did anyone contact Nullsoft and ask them about the subject? I am a Registered Winamp user and don't wish to see such a great little company get hammered by legal costs.

I don't think you need written ack.

Here's why (I believe I found this at junkbuster.org): In order to get rid of junk mail, this guy set himself up a "company" (just filed the papers and forms, but didn't hire anyone) called something like "Ad Effectiveness 'R Us". When he'd get junk mail from people he'd send them back a letter saying "This is your free trial evaluation: I've reviewed your ad and found it to be somewhat effective. Further evaluations will be invoiced at $500/item. Receipt of further items by me will be taken as acknoledgement that you want a non-free eval."

Anyway, you see my point. The junk mailer doesn't have to specifically acknowledge the deal, they just have to have been notified that any future behavior will be interpreted as acknowledgement.

First, the question is "how long can a domain name be?". I don't know the answer, but I'm going to guess around 25. Next we ask "how many characters are available for use in a domain name". Alpha/Numeric/SomePunc gives ~40.

So we have 40 C 25 (40 choose 25). We have no stricture on uniqueness (can't I name my domain "rrrrrrrrrrrr.com"?) so this is 40^25 (40 possibilities in each of 25 locations). Now add to that the fact that we can be in one of about 10 different TLDs and we get 10*(40^25).
