    Then I'd still be a retard since they count in kilometres and I could just as easy have looked at the odometer and driving exactly 60mph is pretty hard on a busy motorway.

    I was in .au in februari and every once in a while there are `speedochecks' on the motorway. Just a sign every kilometer for 5 kms saying 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Have you ever tried to drive 1km/h in a car? Impossible! Especially on the motorway:P

    A bit stupid, but I don't know exactly what it was that's the problem... but dualhead works. No problem. But the tv-out doesn't work. And I believe there was also something with no xvideo on the 2nd head... so then what software do you use to watch movies on your tv? I'd like to know... since that's what I bought my g450 for:(

    Rumor has it that tv-out-support on the new (as of g450) Matrox cards is total crap onder Linux. Don't buy this shit if you want tv-out. If you don't want tv-out...I have a g450 for sale for you:P

    I think the main reason for this bonus-system is to stimulate employees with good innovative ideas to "give" the idea to the company. most employees of most companies are required to do that by their contract anyway. This is probably just meant as an extra bonus for not keeping the idea to yourself (and making money of it yourself). This is pretty standard actually; a lot of good ideas come from education/experience you get by working at the company so they'd like to profit from that. I don't think it was meant to have as many patents as possible.

    Matroxes used to be find, but since the G450 they don't make decent linux drivers anymore. So no tv-out under Linux.... So I won't buy Matrox anymore.

    Ehm. I saw 3d displays at CEBIT. I'm not sure if it were the ones discussed here, but they were definately VERY 3d. I think it was only 2 planes but the sense of depth is incredible. I think even with 2 planes you can show a multiplane 3D image pretty realistically.

    These things only worked if you're not standing too close and not too far (a few metres) and DON'T MOVE YOUR HEAD! You'll get very dizzy and before you know it you're down on the floor:)

    Matrox cards are NOT nice cards. Well. At least they don't have nice drivers. The last good thing they did was the g400 and since then there has been no proper TV-OUT support for Linux. I know this is offtopic, but I know waaay too many ppl that bought a g450 for the tv-out and were very disappointed.

    They're not allowed to use the CD logo. At least not for a few more years. The logo is copyrighted by Philips and can only be used for discs that conform to the CD standard. These discs don't. So let's call them CD's. Crashing Discs.

    So does that make web-applications bad? No. It sounds project which should never have been accepted with those requirements. And with 1000+ lines of JS per page, I hope there's only 1 or 2 pages? If not: how many code did you duplicate? Quite a lot I believe. As a company developing web-applications, you should know that it is almost impossible to deliver an application with a lot of JavaScript for all platforms. If the client still wants it, don't accept the project or you'll be screwed.

    For what I know, trademarks are only applicable within the same market - so if their concurrent starts using these 2 words they will have a problem. But if I'd like to sell myself for sex and use those 2 words for marketing - no problem. I can even trademark it. Go look at a trademark reg office's registers - you'll find many doubles, but they simply operate on other markets.

    Even better... spectral analysis so you can see what material an object consists of. Built-in compass, built-in GPS with the new 3D navigation system Intel built. Now we all need a long-distance (like 100m or so) radio device that transmits data about us which we want to be public (nickname, hetero/homo/bi/pedo/whateversexual, .plan (.plan files will offcourse be very popular to put ads in:P). Then you can put this data on the HUD above the person. Stores etc. can also use these devices and project their best offers:P And at places where you have to stand in a queue one can offer something to read as an extra service!:)

    Just a thought... laserlight usually consists of one single frequency of light. So your eyes will on avg get a lot more light in that frequency... furthermore I think you can only really concentrate (i.e. read) on what's in the center of your eye so retina-projection is probably only usefull if projected there (that is: look at an object and get additional information). So the center of the eye will get a rather large dose of light in a certain frequency. I don't know if that's harmfull or not, but that's at least one thing to think about.

    Probably it's best to use multi-colored lasers which project a color which contrasts a lot with the "original" color so you won't need a lot of light to see it.

    DISCLAIMER: I'm a total moron regarding this sort of stuff.

    But imagine the possibilities of this stuff combined with face-recognition, barcode-scanners, reading stuff (you can see the sums of rows...even search paper documents for words). Hell. Just look at your bluetooth-controlled fan, shout IT'S FUCKING HOT IN HERE and it'll go to max. Look at someone's face which is in your db and see all the memos you've made about this person. Look at your clock on the wall to see a list of meetings. Look at your girlfriend...eh nevermind:> Damn. Can't wait.

    I should agree to that... but they still proved Lomborg wrong on a lot of points. But I didn't read his book, so I can't say too much about that.

    My conclusion: We just don't know (yet).

    In februari or march American Scientist (the magazine) had a huge article om Lomborg (the author of the book you mention). In the article a few important scientists on some of the fields he discusses say what they think about his research. He is critisized heaviliy because he's not done his homework well; he leaves out a lot of important facts, draws conclusions which aren't based on any facts and leaves out a lot of references. American Scientist basicly sais he's a crook. He's wrong. Buy the magazine. It's a better read than the book itself.

    The Linux-support somehow doesn't work with SAPdb. Had some problems with linux-java-binaries and other stuff as well. We can get it installed but that's about it; weird segfaults, race-conditions etc etc. SAP doesn't give any real support on the GPL SAPdb so that wasn't an issue:P By the way - the G400 has been replaced by the G450 which doesn't have a working TV-out in mplayer because matrox won't release the specs or something like that:(

    Another very important reason why Linux does better is that there is a lot of (mainly commercial) software that is distributed only as an RPM and which won't run at all under FreeBSD. Where I work we where running FreeBSD on all our unix boxes until recently. We decided to start using SAPdb as our database. It's GPL, but compiling it is hell but there is a perfectly working RPM distribution of it. So now were running Redhat on all boxes....

    Just because code is buried in the OS instead of the application (like it should be) doesn't mean that it isn't part of the application.

    So you also think Mozilla should be copied into all browsers that are based on it instead of them just using a library that implements the functionality?
