    You don't think MS has a deserving stock price? Microsoft, with a 47 P/E ratio is unjustified at its current price? And let me guess, Yahoo!, with a P/E ratio of 497 is reasonable?

    If ford built cars like MS builds software, they would've been out of buisness long ago

    Agreed, but software differs greatly from other business models. For example, something like 80% of software projects never finish or are so riddled by bugs/errors they are rendered useless. Imagine if a bridge-building company had that success ratio? If 80% of the bridges you saw were half-built, or too shoddy to use. I am not saying that this is right, that software should not be held up to the same standards as car making or bridge builing, but the fact is, is that it isn't. All software companies are guilty of this 80% rule, and all software companies build pretty crappy software from the standpoint of the majority of end users.

    So perhaps there's another reason to sell your stock. Silly me tho, what do ethics matter, as long as we're all makin money

    That Microsoft support issue was just hilarious. How many Microsoft engineers does it take to recognize the world is turning the wrong way...

    Also, those Pandas have it made. What I wouldn't give to have scientists bring mates to me, establishing a "panda dating service" as the article put it.

    Why? Since you're probably one of the idiots that overinflated these stocks to begin with

    My portfolio is embarssingly small (I am, after all, just a college student), and my primary holdings are in Microsoft, which is one of the few stocks that deserves its price. I was not one of the many to pump LNUX up to 320 before letting it crash back down. Fuck, I've never even sold a stock.

    It seems that no one is concerned about the very probable fact that illegal pornography will end up on your computer! Does no one have any problems with that? What happens, if for some reason, your computer is confiscated, and they find child porn. Try to explain that.

    LNUX's drop has been pretty steady since its incredibly high IPO. It makes Microsoft's drop look like a minor hiccup. I think LNUX is a good example of what happens when a tech stock is grossly overvalued. $320 per share? For a company selling a FREE operating system?

    Tee hee, you gotta love the times we live in...

    Yeah, you should only put into the market what you can afford to loose, but a market downturn can equal pain for the economy as well. What if this downturn continues (which I seriously doubt it will) to the point where bigger companies are hurting bad too... layoffs ensue, a near depression... hmmm, I'd imagine you'd be singing a different tune if this goes to the point where you get laid off and can't find a job.

    Anything that depreciates the value of Gates' portfolio is a Good Thing(tm) in my eyes

    How typical. Ugh. The stock market losing value is not good. This isn't just Bill Gates losing money, it's a lot of other people losing money too. A weak US stock market == weak world-wide markets. As of Sunday night CST, the major Asian markets are down aroud 10%.

    So, it that good too? Is ma and pa down the street, who bought into a mutual fund for retirement, a good thing too? Grow up.

    This is crazy. An associates type plan (where those who refer business receive a percentage of the total sale) is nothing new. It's called commission! I wonder if Bezos will try flex his "commission" patent and put an end to commissions for car dealers, stock brokers, and insurance salesmen.

    According to this article on ABCNews.com, an English woman has attempted to patent herself. Supposedly she is angered over British companies vying for patents to specific gene patterns, so she's patented her own gene pattern to "protect [her] invention [(her genome)] from unauthorized exploitation, genetic or otherwise."

    Freakin' crazy. What would be funny is if they found some important genetic sequence that she possessed that cured cancer, or something like that. And this lady wanted royalties or whatnot... Interesting times we live in

    I've got an idea - let's make a very reputable university - MIT, Yale, Harvard, and the like - change their name. We can use the Internet to let people know that we, society, have chosen to use the word "Harvard" as a slang word for female genatalia. Before too long, 20% of prospective studentds will turn Harvard down simply because of the name!

    So, next time you see a cute girl walk by, be sure to say to your friends, "I'd like to see the Harvard on that!"

    No one at MS still runs 98 or NT 4, unless they are testing platforms on those products. Everyone uses Win2k.

    . I have to say that the amount of mindless propoganda ("WRITE GREAT CODE!") was exaggerated. Much more frequently you'll find articles from industry magazines on the product being developed in that part of that building

    One thing hanging outside an Office developer's office was the following SegFault.org article:

    Sigh, this is not a IIS issue. There are plenty of articles that explain why Microsoft doesn't use NT/IIS for Hotmail. Furthermore, they are transitioning to Win2k/IIS 5 for Hotamil.

    Uhm, I heard it a bit different actually (from people who have worked for and with Microsoft).

    I think Microsoft is like any other company, any other school, or any other neighborhood. Yes, there are assholes who work there, and there are nice people who work there too. Having worked at Microsoft myself and at other computer places, Microsoft's proportion of assholes is relatively low. I feel sorry for your friend if he got stuck with a group of conceited buggers.

    Personally, some of the smartest and nicest folks I've met were MS employees.

    When on the job, people in the Army wear clothes saying U.S. Army. At least a third of the people in the Microsoft cafeteria wore shirts or jackets saying Microsoft

    Uh, this isn't because they have a fanatical obsession with Microsoft, or feel patriotic, or anything nonsensical like that. It's because Microsoft gives away these clothes, or, at the company store, sell them for a great discount.

    As a previous intern at Microsoft and a geek, fashion is one of the furthest things from my mind. Free clothes means I will wear them. I think you would too.
